Why do Chinese SKS' typically cost more than Russian?

I have a very early chinese one with a blade bayo.I believe it was made while the Russians were teaching the Chinese how to make them.

The Russians only assisted them with the first year production, but the blade bayo was used for a few years at factory 26 before they switched to the spike bayo.

Yes I believe mine is called the sino soviet because it has the russian letter first.

I saw a documentary awhile ago that showed the horrific human cost to the Chinese people of those aforementioned Russian factories that were shipped to China and set up during Mao's so called "Great leap forward". The starvation and misery they endured as Mao paid out the Russians in agricultural products was terrible indeed. Though those brand new Chinese SKS' we we lucky enough to buy were likely never in a war, they are nonetheless a part of a very troubled history.

I have a /625\. It was unissued and brand new old stock when I got it. It has the best trigger out of all the SKS's I've owned or fired over the years. The machining is pretty darn good but the wood sucks. It is more accurate then the Russian's I've owned ('51 Tula, '53 Izzy, and '54 Tula).

Cost differences are pure supply and demand but for a shooting rifle - the Chinese is a little better. It's just an opinion - sorry if I offend anyone haha!

My son has a /26\ blade bayonet that shoots better than any other SKS I've shot.I think they were made on Soviet tooling......... so milled.......NFS........Harold

Most of the /625\s I've handled were rough. One even had slanted trigger group. But I guess it all depends who was running the machines at the time, the season or part of the day it was built (I don't think climate control was a priority in some Chinese factories).

Getting a SKS with a decent trigger is the luck of the draw. I have a '53 Izhvesk with a really nice trigger with neutral sear engagement... I have an other '53 Izhvesk with the worst trigger.

I do agree the Chinese are the best I've handled and shot.

Pretty much all the Russian SKS I've been seeing at the moment are just pure garbage for condition. I'm waiting for better ones to come a long. Like that time where everyone seemed to be getting non refurbished SKS.

I prefer to shoot my Chinese one. The accuracy is slightly better and the stock doesn't have that awkward palm swell under the bayonet.

I can remember buying Chinese SKS's for $150, while Russian ones sold for $1K, then we got a bunch of Russians and the Chinese went to an all time low of $75, now they're back up again, as mentioned, supply and demand at work.

When I bought 5 Chinese SKS for $75 each I didn't even know about Russian ones. Of course, that was pre-internet. :)

I gave out a couple for birthday presents and sold a few but still have one.

Of course everyone wanted the Russian ones when they were in short supply, now everyone wants the Chinese. :)

Frankly, they both do the same thing pretty good which is to shoot up large quantities of cheap ammo

I had a still in cosmo all matching Factory 306 that I brought to the Calgary gunshow. Put it out for $240. Lots of touchy but the only offer was for $190. The Russian refurbs were going for $180

Was going to keep it as it was a good looking rifle but, as I have two Russians, I decided to put the Chinese one up on the EE. A good CGNer snapped it up in under 5 minutes with two offers in the hopper before I could SPF it!

Because people are tupid and pay more money for a cheap copy of the Russian sks. The steel in china is crap so don't get all the Chinese sks must be better. Screw that stick with Russian. Made in china sucks. Go ahead prove me wrong. The Chinese sks is made from old tercels and civics, ya great quality right from the junky steal right up to the Chinese factory workers made up of children and drug addicts.

I know what you mean. Might be waiting a while though, and whatever minty SKS's are on the shelves seem to demand a premium.
