With my winding down from building these rifles for others, I've had much more time to get out and do some shooting and finish a few long overdue projects.
One of those is this build right here. I just got the stock, barrelled action and parts back from Cerakote BC, amazing finish , really changes the appearance of the parts.

this will be my last build posted to the net, hope it works out well LOL

she is a 2009 vintage norinco m14s with her original bolt, usgi internals
barrel is a 18.5 inch medium contour Krieger chromoly 1/10 twist and came short chambered
-barrel's shoulder set back in lathe .002 with 1degree undercut
-oprod guide boss and component splineways NM conditioned
-Chamber cut with Clymer M852 match .308 PT reamer to 1.631"
USGI trigger parts , norinco housing, trigger guard, safety
TIG unitized norinco gas cylinder assembly and related components
norinco oprod
Sadlak mag release and NM spring guide rod
Wolfe oprod , bolt, mag release and bolt stop springs
USGI flash hider and castlenut
SAI NM front sight
SAI non hooded NM rear sight
and I made a stock based off the NEA shotgun adaptor thanx to the DIY thread posted by other members.
major parts groups cerakoted black and stock/handguard Magpul OD

rifle has never been fully assembled, this will be an assembly and straight to the range.
should be revealing and a help to those guys thinking they need a new bolt and a bunch of fancy parts/receivers to build a reliably functioning and very accurate (I hope LOL) rifle using a quality match pipe . Not that there is anything at all wrong with going high end everything ;)

more pics and range vid to come

Looks great so far! Pardon my ignorance but does applying cerakote make parts "bigger"? For example does the OD of the oprod slide nicely through the ID of the oprod guide? Sorry for the dumb question but I'm not familiar with the cerakote process.

not noticing any issues so far. I have 2 other rifles that were cerakoted years ago. one is an m14 as well. the way that finish has stood up to years of hard hunting made my choice pretty easy. I don't have data on how thick the finish is but it isn't noticeable so far in the build. if something pops up I'll document and pass it on here.

Rifle Envy Meter...again in the red.

Beautiful indeed!

Can't wait to see the accuracy report.

Thomas, from my understanding the M852 match chamber is little tighter than ordinary .308 (shorter in both freebore and base to mouth length) but what is the real benefit on this and do you think its still safe to fire the x51 rounds in it?

so here's a selection of some of the tools n stuff i'll be using , the "gunsmithing" side of this, ie trigger job, barrel install, chamber ream ect ect was done months ago previous to cerakoting and waiting for some final components to arrive.
various rollpin and straight punches, grease, greaser brush and roller greaser(not pictured) , small hammer and big rubber mallet, boresnake and hoppes, AR buttstock tool, flat head screw driver and some allen keys, castlenut pliers ect ect.

prepping to install bolt stop assembly and clip guide. note the pad used in pic 2 to prevnt marring of receiver finish from roll pin punch

installed oprod , sadlak guide rod and wolfe spring, after cycling by hand, noticed lots of binding of the spring and tube at the rear of the stroke (in pic below with punch used as pointer)...... nasty must fix that ;)

here's the spot (shiny spot on guide rod below) I filed down to allow the guide rod to seat deeper into the receiver, correctly centering the rod and eliminating the binding/dragging of the spring between the oprod tube and NM guide rod.
**very common when installing any and ALL aftermarket NM guide rods, regardless of manufacturer.

missed the gas assembly , everything installed nice and groovy, no rotational wiggle and seated with rubber mallet. gas lock hand tight at 5:00 + , makes me smile ;) and a gentle rapp with the rubber mallet and the gas lock is in perfect position.

now she's pretty much ready for final assembly and in stock safety checks...... and I gotta find me a magpul OD buttstock assembly ......

oh, and in case you were wondering what the AR buttstock tool is for..... well ya, it's for tightening up the buttstock castlenut when I install the buffer tube .... BUT.... for all you guys with sage stocks, blackfeather stocks, troy stocks, vltor, ect ect ect......
here's a nifty way to get yer trigger guard unlocked ;)

more to come ;)

Lol, just joking of course! :)

I have a plain-Jane, right off the CTC shelf, M305.

What/who are the best sources for after-market stocks, and accessories for these rifles?

Canadian tire is good for a lot of cool stuff but sadly, there isn't one where I live and on top of that..... they don't sell firearms at any of the BC can tire stores I've been in. they just have paint and pellet guns and regular ammo.
oh ya.... and then there is that Krieger barrel hehehehe

I have a sillier question. Why the Norc bolt? I'm still rocking one too, but are they trustworthy for longevity? If going to the extent of a Krieger barrel, should a guy swap for a GI spec bolt?
