Here is my problem. I have a vltor muir upper and a areo precsion 10.5 inch barrel and it is very tight to get it to seat all the way pic below. At this point I can't get it in all the way by hand. And need to know do I force it in and if I do will it cause problem or safty issues.

This is not my first build but never had a barrel be this tight before. Any help would be great. Thanks

I had this happen to me before also with an upper I was putting together. A couple of stokes on each side of the slot with a small fine bastard file fixed the problem in no time. The upper has well over 3500 rds thru it now with no issues.

a dead blow hammer and you will be fine. you wont hurt anything. i have seen a few tight ones like this. just make sure you protect the muzzle.

Ok now I just checked the head space and the bolt won't close on my GO GAUGE. Barrle is a 5.56 and I am using 5.56 gauges.

Any thoughts on what I should do

Are you checking with the bolt and the barrel out of the receiver? And with the ejector pin removed? (or at least pushing it in enough so the ejector isn't causing an issue) Everything is nice and clean? (it won't take much to throw a GO gauge off if it's a tight fit)

With the precision of most tools these days, an out of spec bolt is almost a little hard to do. But if your gauges are correct; the only thing to do is try a new bolt head, if that doesn't fix the issue, then your barrel may be out of spec, and SHOULD be grounds for a manufacturer warranty.

ETA

Just read above, I would contact the guys you bought it from and see if you can do an RMA. Barrel definitely seems out of spec!

Yup did all that 2 differnt bolts and extractors out so on. Barrle was cleaned before I check. So I bet the barrle is out of spec

Well here is an update. I tried 5.56 go gauge in my Daniel defence upper using the bolt that came with it from the factory and I had the same result. Bolt would not close on the go gauge and the DD is stamped 5.56 chamber

Then I tried the same go gauge with my Colt Canada IUR upper and a CC BCG and the bolt closed like it should on the GO gauge and did not on the NO GO gauge.

So kinda scratching my head hear. Any thoughts?

Try chambering real ammo....ive built a couple uppers and never used a gauge...id be surprised if there was an issue with your dd barrel

Built my Mk18 Clone/wanna-be around an Aero 10.5" bbl. No issues during the assembly or on the range. Aero is noted for having some of the tightest machining tolerances out there however (along with Noveske & Vltor). I'd find it hard to believe it was out of spec, but it is not entirely impossible.

Have you contacted the Store you purchased the bbl from?

I tried clambering real ammo. It closes fine with a real 5.56 round In the chamber. I am not dough ting areo precsion I like their products.

Also I picked up the barrle from the EE. but no signs of problems and it funny thar the same gauge is doing the same thing in my factory built DD upper.

See if you can borrow another gauge.

That is what I thought maybe it is the gauge. But just found it weird that in my IUR upper which is 5.56 with the colt Canada bcg the same gauge works fine GO closes NO Go won't close.

But with a factory checked complete DD upper it is doing the same no close on the GO as my build with the AERO barrel both DD upper and my Aero build upper I checked with 2 differnt bcg 1 LMT and the other was the DD BCG that came with the upper from factory.

Could the chambers be different from the CC IUR as it is military production with more attion to tolerance and the commercial DD AND AERO be a differnt tolerance to thow the gauge off.?

Sorry I've got no clue. Was only suggesting another gauge as an option. The other possibility is it's a barely misses on the go. I can only tell you what I've read which is availiable to you on the internet as well. I would remove the barrel and try the bolt like that.

There are guys with a ton of experience on here and would be more help than me. Maybe your colt has a chamber with enough room to pass ( a possibly) damaged gauge but not the dd or aero?
