I'm contemplating picking up an sks and a crate of rounds in a couple weeks. Lever arms seems to have the best prices in the van area. Anybody had any good experience with them?

FYI

They are advertising corrosive ammo as non-corrosive.

There is a word for that but i'll stop here.

It's fine if you know exactly what you need/want, and just expect to get in, pay, and get out. Don't expect to be able to pick thru crates to find a good one... If its not busy and you're lucky you can QUICKLY pick from the 12 they have in the rack.

I'd rather give my $ to Reliable or better yet, Wanstalls as they treat me like gold when I show up.

Lever is fine. They don't cater to drama lamas or pouty princesses... Know what you want. Pay and get out.

That said.... I like reliable and Shane is a reasonable dude. He might price match for you.

I was just checking their site for that specifically, the Chinese surplus isn't listed as non corrosive. It's not listed as corrosive either though lol.

For what it's worth I've had good experiences buying from Lever as well as a couple other local LGS, but I'm not a window shopper for the most part. I know what it is I'm looking for and ask outright for make, model and year at the get go.

Lever were very helpful when I had questions about picking a first pistol and I was straight up "I'm a newb, this will be my first handgun. Which of these three would you recommend?" IF they have what I want at a good or better price I won't hesitate to shop their, just grabbed a set of Leupold rings from them last week for a real fair price.

Deuce-Deuce nailed it. Know what you are looking for and there will be no issues. I've been there several times and hand picked my SKS, SVT-40 and many other items without any problem. Take your time and poke around the store and you may find some really good unadvertised deals on small things

Things were better when Alan Lever still ran the store. Now the guys just sit behind the desk, barely say hello or smile. Like the rest say, know what you want, know what they have, know the price, go in, buy it and get out. Prices are generally reasonable.

Reliable, Canadian Tire on Grandview Highway, Wanstalls if you want to see in person. For what it is worth the manager at Canadian Tire let me look at as many as I wanted, we worked out a deal and I bought 3 from him.

Or buy online with confidence from Corwin Arms, Tradex.

I won't bother with Lever anymore personally, I must be a drama mama or something.

I bought a TT33, a 1950 laminate SKS, and a Norinco 97-1 riot gun from Lever in the past. No issues, the guys were friendly, even tried to sell me (jokingly) the Swede M96 sniper that they have hung on the wall.

Im kind of like a "tactial strike" shopper. I know exactly what i want, get in, grab it, and GTFO.
Lever sounds fine.

I recently purchased an SVT40 from them. I knew exactly what I wanted and they delivered. I live in Ontario so I paid for hand select. They didn't disappoint, and their price was excellent even with the hand select fee. I'd recommend them at this point.

I have had no issues with my 4 or 5 purchases from Lever. I generally know what I want, and they get it for me. They have gladly given me the opportunity to compare the various options and buy the one I want. Not the kind of place you sit around the cracker barrel for a chat though. Been happy with their pricing, and will be back soon for some more maybe?maybe not corrosive SKS fodder.

I'm relatively satisfied with them. I Will only shop there if their prices are below other local stores.
It seems like they would rather talk to each other than to help you out.

The fact that they were mis-advertising their surplus ammo for a long time really puts a sour taste in my mouth though.

Lever has been there for a LONG time.
A lot longer than some of the whingers on here. They've gone above and beyond for me on a warranty claim that they didn't have to frankly, and I've picked up some nice hardware there.
I think they are a bit salty from decades of dealing with a parade of douches, being located right downtown. If you are not an idiot they are accommodating enough.
I would not expect them to cue up the marching band and roll out the red carpet when you arrive though.

But...were they legitimately trying to be malicious and deceptive to the customer, or just quoting the contents as described to them by their supplie?

Often when people find out they were misled, they automatically assume they were intentionally deceived. It's a knee jerk reactive response rooted in anger.

They were told numerous times that it was corrosive and continued selling it as non-corrosive. There is no excuse for this.
