I am now switching to mags that are .150'' longer than what I had, as they now protrude a bit more from the magwell.
I do not have a box to test if the pistol still fits the box. At my last lvl3 in Sharon, they seemed to be using a metal box, which can be precisely made by a machinist around here.
Here is the rulebook quote ;

Appendix D3 Classic Division
A handgun in its ready condition (see Section 8.1), but unloaded and with an empty magazine inserted, must fit
wholly within the confines of a box which has internal dimensions of 225 mm x 150 mm x 45 mm (tolerance of
+1 mm, -0 mm). Note that all magazines must comply.

At official matches, is the box 225mm x 150mm x 45mm , or is it more like 225.9mm x 150.9mm x 45.9mm , as they seem to have a +1mm tolerance.
I trust a machinist to make this square and precise, and wish to work with the right measurments.
 
It's clear enough to me too, I wanted to know what match officials actually used at matches.
If I am going to spend coin getting a box built, I want to make damn sure its not off.

Edit : Browsed Enos forums, old posts seem to be saying that the 225mm x 150mm x 45mm should be used for construction of the box. And the +1mm tolerance would actually be to give a bit of play during the box manufacturing and we should not necessarily depend on that last 1mm

crafm uses the ipsc box you can buy yourself from ipsc canada store. tested my glock mags with the taylor freelance bling basepad made of brass...had to shave some material off the pads, they didn't fit the ipsc box in stock trim, while they were ok in the uspsa box.
 
The pistol and mag must fit in the box.
The box size is stated, with a variance.
The variance is for the box, not what goes in it.
Pin your specs on the variance and chances are "welcome to open..."
 
Yes, go for the minimum size many guys get stung by counting on the 'variance'. Depending on the match and officials, you could request a courtesy equipment check prior to shooting. Bring a bastard file and 'trim to fit' lol. :cool:
 
Thanks for all the great info, while I am tempted to buy a DAA box, it has to come up to 150$+ to my door once everything is said and done.
I will go to a machine shop with tight info, i'll let you guys know how it turns out!

As an example I tried the box at Sharon 2014. My STI Ranger ll was barely making it with my 10 round 9mm mags, the novak sight was too much elevated.
At that same match, I asked Kent to try my newly acquired Trojan 40 in the box. With 9 round .40 mags, it had plenty of play.
This can be attributed to the much lower LPA sights. But these IPSC legal 0.150'' longer mags I just got from Tripp, have their basepads filed at an angle, so I have a feeling they will be very tight.
Yeah the bastard file comes to mind ;)
 
Martyk2500, are you using the system mags?
If you are the base pad may need to be filed a bit, but also the part of the base pad that touches the front of the frame needs to be filed a bit so you get more play to push the mag further into the gun for the box test.
But hey, what do I know right? :)

I have one. They are $$$$... your IPSC Section coordinator should have access to one, and may loan you one to test your gun.
 
Got my box today. I am happy with it. the 150mm measure that has a tolerance of -0mm+1mm, is clocking in at 150.05mm, so if it fits my box it should fit pretty much everywhere.
My gun fits pretty tight, since I don't have an heightened mag catch, I have to take the slop out of my mag to push it in.
So in competition, are you allowed to push hard on inserted mag and rear sights? In pic it doesn't show, but mag is inserted and couldnt be tighter, I have to insert top of gun first then push the magwell in the box in last.

Very clean looking Rooky, are these taped and screwed or welded?
Myself it was welded with undersized dimensions, and he then milled out excess material to tight tolerances.
Aesthetically on the outside it doesn't look very clean since all welds are done from the outside, but it measures a gun and that's the point!
