The Pietta Python?

I hate to be a kill joy here but if you just want a gun that looks like a python then why not find yourself a nice Dan Wesson. They are a proven gun at a fraction of the price.

Now if you are buying the real thing then that I can understand.

Just my two cents worth.

Graydog

To me the Dan Wesson has always looked like a club.

That's my .05 anyway.

Really? I always think of Pietta as a maker of cheap ($500-600) Colt SAA clones. If they brought out a DA revolver I'd expect it to more along the lines of the Alfas in terms of pricing. Maybe a little more if they worked on getting a better finish although the bluing on that gun in the photo doesn't look like anything to get excited about.

I had a Pietta SAA and while it had no case hardening to speak of...otherwise was a fine gun IMO

oh wow. sign me up for one. I wanted a colt python since I was a kid but now im not paying the astronomical price for them.
these look as nice, but, like everyone else wonder how they will hold up

I think this is great. If its really going to be in the region of $700 they should sell really well. With the ridiculous prices of real pythons at present, the real thing has become too valuable to shoot(I put through about 200 rounds through my 72 python a year,as Im afraid of something breaking on it),so this would be a good alternative for people not wanting to fork out huge money for the experience.

It will be interesting if this will be an 100% clone or have modified lockwork like the trooper has to make for cheaper production(I think the latter as the cost of replicating the original python lockwork would take too much expertise and money)

They could make these as nice as they wanted to, But I think they will have to look at the price point.
If you check the history of this company, you will find they make some real high end stuff. Course now Beretta is the owner now.
I sold the SAA years a go and most are fine.
Rossi made copy if the colt 22 Dimandback years ago, looked nice, trigger P.O.S., but maybe with a trigger job??????????????????

Not being a smartass because I legitimately want to know. Unless the quality and finish is of the same high standard as the colt Python, what makes an Italian Python copy more disireable than an S&W 586/686?

Nothing for most folks. For some folks however, the alure of the name ("Python" in this case) overcomes any other critical evaluation of the item itself...and the price makes them feel they are getting a deal on the real thing...when in fact, they are likely just paying what the copy is really worth...or worse, perhaps they are paying more than what the copy is worth, just because the copy is using the name of the original.

Human nature...not being critical.

I already have a 586 and a really nice K-38
For me it would be a case of something different/interesting for not an outrageous price. As long as it was a decent shooter I'd be a buyer. ( same reason I bought an Alfa)
