Cosmetic factory flaw or serious problem?

Wondering if anybody has ever seen this? Looks like a factory flaw. I would like to know if it is a problem or just not pretty. If anybody has any ideas or somebody I could ask about it, I would greatly appreciate it

Thank you!!! See where the firing pin plunger is. Looks like a failed attempt to cut the hole? I would like to know if it is something to worry about? Or just a cosmetic flaw.

It is cosmetic. If it is a new gun, I would not accept it.

It is new. Never fired, but made in 1993. My concern is it affecting the function and safety. I would like to go ahead with the deal I have in place. I doubt I will find a NIB one ever again.

I would say buy the gun if that's your only concern. It looks to shallow to be any serious concern for structural integrity.

I agree, it doesn't look deep enough to have any effect on the recoil shield. My concern would be the firing pin plunger.

No safety concern IMO. Very shallow and not in an area with the most pressure.

Don't buy it. The flaw will bother you and you'll sell it on the EE later and lose money...

Take a Dremel and clean it up.Is it supposed to be there..no..but things slip by.I had to finish off the bolt face on my E series S&W that I bought new for $1200.Was I happy... no... but the gun shoots so good that I didn't want to send it back to the factory for clean-up.The rest of the gun is perfect but this bugged me for sure.It is what it is so take the matter in hand and be done with it.
