.38 Specials that aren't prohibited

What is there available for .38 special, not .357, revolvers in Canada? Wikipedia says Smith and Wesson makes, or has made, a 5" barreled Model 10 but I can't find any thing like that for sale.

I have two 6" .357's with full length ejector shrouds and am looking for something smaller and lighter. I would use it for gaming and taking the girlfriend shooting as she likes revolvers but mine are a bit heavy.
 
S&W Model 10"s or 14's w. the 6" barrel are not prohibs and do not have a full underlug. The Model 19 (also a K frame) will fire .357 but does not have the full underlug either.

Colt Police Positive, Officer's Model and early Troopers are all .38 special.

In terms of new guns Alfa proj makes an alloy frame .38 special.
 
I also have a 5 inch S&W Heavy Duty with fixed sights.

Light is not what I would call it. There's a lot steel in between the N frame sized cylinder chamber holes. But it feels much like a 22 in recoil with regular 38 Special ammo.

You don't find many of these around. Mine was made in 1940, and still runs like a top. BCPP and RCMP service until 1971.

But then again, who's really looking at the gun?? lol

Action shooting sports. I guess I should have been more specific. I used my 6" 686 for a steel challenge and it was just too clumsy.

Thank you for referring me to Trade Ex. They have exactly what I was looking for. There are a few different types. The Model 14's seem popular as they sold them all!
 
The 14 is the one revolver to get if you want just one revolver, or a .38 special in particular.

It's the archetype.

Last night a buddy set up the plate rack. I shoot bullseye style and single action almost exclusively.

But I wrapped my mitts around the stocks and ran that rack in DAO combat fashion faster and straighter than I ever have with any gun. You'd think I was practiced or something.

And it's a new to me gun.

^Yep, Ed McGivern often chose a 22 or 38 K frame S&W for most of his trick shooting demos.

I had a newer shooting friend that had issues with his Sig Sauer. I handed him the above mentioned 64-3 and told him to fire away at my 25 yard target. He promptly shot two 8s and one in the 10.
He placed the revolver down, and then left immediately because he said, his better half forbade him from buying one other handgun.

A model 17 K22 Masterpiece is next on my own wish list. Just waiting for the right one to turn up :)

I've shot revolvers since I was a kid, but I never had any of my own, so I'm slowly building a collection.

For my hands that 38/44 would be ideal, but not for the 2 grand that Marstar wants :(

Yeah, you mentioned the 38/44 previously in another thread and I just had to peek at it.
To my amateur eyes those adjustable target sights say Outdoorsman, but I'll just shut up now. OOPS, it is listed as an Outdoorsman, my bad!
I also did not notice the trigger shoe before either.

Considering it has not possibly been made since just before 1956, that asking price is not really outrageous IMO.

Edit: The closest thing I have in my meager collection is a S&W Model 624. With the right 44 Special hand load it's bloody accurate too. The same size frame and barrel length as this pussy cat in 38 Special.

Had this abomination for awhile..... a blued S&W K frame Model 15 [.38 Special] that had been rebarreled with a 6" take off barrel with adjustable front site from an L frame S&W 686.

Is it just me or do Marstar's used prices tend to make the EE look like Bargain Central?
 
Exclusively for shooting 38 Spl 148 gr HWC, i bought a brand new Ruger SP 101, i changed the grip for one with finger groves, i have a sweet revolver very accurate and pretty small... JP.
 
I'd also suggest any of the S&W K frames, particularly if your lady is going to shoot it (smaller frame). I liked the Model 10, my 14 is sublime, and the 15 Combat master is a good in between. It has adjustable sights (the 10 doesn't), but not the wide target hammer and trigger like the 14....the best thing to do is get one of each! The other (better) option is to get a Model 19 Combat Magnum, then you can also put .357 down range. If you're looking for any of the above, shoot me a PM. I may be able to help you out.
 
Thanks for all the advice everyone. It is much appreciated. I knew there had to be lighter, smaller center fire revolvers out there.
 
I had a 14-2, the other half laid claim to it in a hurry, so now I have 2 model 14-2's........as a fill in when she was shooting my gun I was using my model 52 semi.......life is peachy.......then came a model 617 from the early 80's........life is bliss........
