You and a Man Eating Tiger - What Rifle?

50-yards away he's on the dead run .... then your dead, but I'd like a Benelli M4 with first round 00 buck and 2nd round a slug.

.... and that 50-yards may well be a tad generous considering the jungle growth that the remaining cats live in.

I don't know if this has been posted but it's about lions and leopards but I bet it's the same with tigers, shotguns are out, you need 2250fps to stun the cat or else you're hoping for organ damage and he'll be on top of you before he dies from that!

"A .303 with good bullets is still a better weapon for dealing with a wounded lion than any shotgun. As noted in my article on game toughness, a bullet needs to be travelling at over 2250fp to exploit a cat's susceptibility to shock. No shotgun load achieves this and you therefore have to rely on killing the animal by destroying organs. With a perforated heart a lion can still move for up to 8 seconds - at 15+ metres a second: perfect medicine in a close quarters confrontation. I wouldn't trust even a Breneke slug to get through the chest muscles on a charging lion at any but point blank range. Unmarked hunters are those who do not let anything nasty get anywhere near point blank range until after it has been skinned.

In conclusion then, shotguns and lions are a first class recipe for a mauled hunter, whilst if the National Parks records are anything to go by, a shotgun and a wounded leopard are not always a good mix. Leave shotguns for the birds and stick to rifles for big game. That way you don't get hurt… however, always carry a handgun when following up wounded cats. Pistoling a peeved pussy on top of you is infinitely easier than trying to throttle it. (If you are a complete chicken like myself, fit a bayonet to your rifle. You can then keep kitty at a reasonable distance while drawing your revolver: -much better than giving it an arm to chew on.)"

I have accpeted long ago (through several premonitions) that I will die at the claws and teeth of a big predator. So when the time comes, I'll lay down my gun and go at it mano a mano:cool:

50 yards and charging at me!

Benelli M-4 extended tube, 9 rounds first three rounds Brenke Rottweil slugs and remaining six of 3" 000 buck shot.

If a rifle was my only option, I guess I'd go with a .375 H&H double rifle, given the choice I'd take a Purdy or the Beretta. At least my final wishes/last requests to have hunted with either will have been fullfilled.

I would show the tiger my PETA membership card or possibly my Osama bin-Layton signed NDP membership card.

Then I would negotiate a "time out" for that tiger....
