I can honestly say I love the smell of powder. But to answer the initial question, the sound of a gun operating is pretty swell to me too. The sound of the shot can be a little overwhelming with some big rifles.

When holes start appearing in whatever I am shooting at I know mine are working . To the Op assuming you are just starting to shoot firing many very loud guns now will make the rest of your shooting career much quieter. Especially if you forget your ear protection on a regular basis .There is nothing like hearing the action of your firearm cycling and a reassuring thwack as a subsonic bullet hits your target without the deafening boom usually experienced with gunfire. However brakkleen gets expensive and prison is a lonely place ...

Yup. CGN at it's finest once again. I took it as English as a second ( or third ) language. Had it been ' the report of my .338 Lapua unnerves other shooters on the firing line. I told them to write a letter to their MP suggesting that suppressors be legal' and then asked for thoughts/opinions, the comments would have been far less condescending.

This is why some folks gravitate to the 'other forum that can't be named'. Politeness counts.
