Trapping Rabbits in Town?

Hey, I have a problem with cottontails eating plants in my backyard/garden. I live in a subdivision so shooting them is out of the question. I have no trapping experience. Would a Conibear type trap work? I have access to some larger live traps for coons but I don't know if they would go in a live trap or not. The buggers chewed up my evergreens over the winter too.

It's very likely that bylaws would outlaw kill traps, but the live traps would probably work just fine. Alfalfa pellets would probably work as a good bait for cottontails. I "know a guy" who was snaring squirrels out of his garden in Calgary. Cashews on the fence rail work really well as bait.

Every province is different. Check your local laws.

There are deterrent spray products you can buy or make ur self. Ton of "recipes" on the net & YouTube. This will probably be your best bet as rabbits bread ..... Like rabbits and if you kill one, another will just take its place.

Call fish n game if you are totally unsure. They will point you in the right direction to help with your pest problem legally.

I might be mistaken but I believe you must be a licensed trapper to use a conibear in Ontario.

The metal squirrel traps work on them.
Just put some lettuce and carrots in it and you're good.

X2 Safely set traps would be your best bet in controlling these hares. Deterrents don't really fix the problem of over population.

Wildlife act allows for getting rid of animals that damage your home.

My neighbour relocated 20 squirrels this spring. I myself have relocated raccoons and skunks. IIRC there is a limitation on how far you can relocate them.

MNR will only come if they are stationary(harharhar)

Ive heard that planting garlic around your garden deters them... But i have also read some people claiming the rabbits in their area eat garlic... Not sure which to believe

Live traps only in my city afaik. Snare the neighbours cat and there would a cruelty charge.
Besides, why deny yourself and your dog entertainment. Ever seen the movie snatch?
