Canpar using horse and buggy to deliver?

Canpar is as good as other couriers, transit time from St. John’s to Vancouver (coast to coast), ground service:
Canpar - 9 days
Canada Post – 10 days
Purolator – 9 days
UPS – 10 days
FedEx – 11 days

Canpar doesn't serve all small cities and remote areas (no one does except Canada Post), so Canpar subcontracts Canada Post, in general it is faster and cheaper than using Canada Post directly.

If you are not at home during the day, you can use ASN (not for firearms).
ADVANCED SHIPPING NOTIFICATION (ASN)
By providing an email address in the selected field of your CanShip shipping system or web application, Canpar Courier will send an ASN to the consignee notifying them of the upcoming delivery. If they will not be available at the time of delivery, there is a simple option to print and sign a notice for the driver to leave the package in a safe place. With advance notice, your package will be delivered the first time – hassle-free.

If you didn't get email with a link, you can use:
www.canpar.com/deliverynotice/DeliveryNoticeEn.jsp?address=&barcode=###x
Replace ###x with your tracking #

Canpar is a great service to ship between big hubs, for example you can drop off parcel at Toronto hub at 10pm, and it will be delivered next morning in Montreal at ground rate.

This is actually quite helpful. Thank you!

The problem I have with canpar is if you are not or can't be home for a shipment it is next to impossible to get it from their depot(sask). Some of the other couriers have depots that are staffed with hours canpar doesn't. Their delivery and length time of time for shipment otherwise is fine.

This is why when I order from people I ask that things be shipped canada post.

The guy at the one near me has my number so when he sees I have a package he calls me and meets me where ever I am. I like canpar because of that. Hope he doesn't get fired or I'll be screwed haha

I found the guy who has your package;

Canpar never again so I wait the month ok,but one box of primers from Canadaammo, package looked like it was used in both wars, primers not even in there little boxes,WTF

All of my Canpar orders to Calgary have been good. A couple I have not been home for and was able to pick it up at the sorting facility the next day and on others they've left a note saying what time they'll be by the next day for a second delivery attempt.
9 days across country isn't that bad for ground service considering sorting facilities, weekends, and whatever other obstacles are out there to delay a shipment. It's not like you have one driver and one truck driving coast to coast.

by the time it is in my hands, the process will have taken a month. where in my post did i say i NEEDED this "right aways"?
I had my Cert in hand for over a week.
I would prefer to pay for a real shipping service [even Canada post] vs Canpar.

I understand Canada ammo fanbois will post here to come to their defense no matter what the subject, but there is nothing anyone can do to de-legitimise the argument that Canpar sucks.

Uhhh did you bother to ask them when you ordered if they could ship Canada Post? They do that you know....when you ask ahead of time, instead of complain after the fact.

Loomis left 8lbs of powder on my step this morning and signed my name on the delivery slip...thought that was pretty lax lol

Ive had same problem...their depot is an hour away with crap hours.
And canpar cant leave anything from disco tech with out a scanned signature...:(

Their CS skills(their 1 800#) are lacking but My driver goes out of his way...so they get a thumbs up.

uhhh every other firearm i bought from Canam [3] came CP.
Thanks for "contributing" your drivel .

Shipped a reloading press, dies, and enough reloading supplies for 10000 pistol rounds via CanPar for only $50 and it took 3 business days(Vancouver to Edmonton). Seems fair to me, nothing but good things to say about CanPar. 6-9 days to cross the entire country in a truck doesn't strike me as outrageous, especially for the low low price of on the house.

Well guys,I have worked for 30 years for Canpar, and every company has its ups and downs,10 to 15 years ago we were only Canpar drivers then the great company decided to save money and contract out to non union workers and companys that also were non union.
So now the non union drivers have to make money so they are supposed to deliver everything that they get every day but we all know that it doesn't happen that way if you are way out in the country they will keep it for a few days till its worth there time and money to deliver it.
Ups has done the same,so has DHL and Loomis,in a lot of areas.
I see this crap about all delivery companys all the time on this forum,at least guns and powder and ammo can still be shipped through Canpar,Ya it might take longer sometimes but all in all it gets there. And for having stuff left on your door step,if it is shipped NSR then it can be left at any safe place, that is up to the company that shipped it because it is cheaper for them.NSR meens no signature required.
So if you wanted something that day or in 2 days maybe you should buy local, and keep the small family companys alive.
All in all, shipping does suck sometimes but the drivers are not the fault,no one company is better then the other they all have problems but they do try.
So now have a good night as I have to go to bed to be fresh in the morning to deliver your so called late package.
Have a good one.

I completely agree with your statement, as it reflects my exact experiences.

Canpar is great in my neighbourhood. What really sucks is the OP complaints but then don't bother noting their location. For all we know you live in Timbuktu with expected lousy delivery.

Just live in the middle of lower mainland. All the delivery companies are great here. Canpar depot is 5 minutes from my place.
