Riding a moose...?

Would I do it....no.

Do I hate the guy who did it....no.

Do I like seeing animals mistreated...no.

Do I like people who hunt for "fun"...no.

It was stupid, dangerous and I'm sure the moose wasn't pleased but no harm, no foul.

CTV news said the guy could face a $100,000 fine...really...how about people who beat dogs and cats, fine those A-holes $100 grand and ask the moose rider not to do again....enough said!

Too bad this moose did not end up running on a shallow rock/sand bar. Who would be laughing now.

To the ones living near Athabasca, Alberta, about 30-35 years ago or so...heard the story about some idiots from the Richmond Park area, while in a boat, lassoed a bull moose while same was swimming across the Athabasca River? At least one died when the bull moose ended on a sandbar and took these guys for a hell of a ride...hence my comments above.

Yes. Rodents can be killed, the released fish are fine, and shooting bears for sport is also ethical. What's your unrelated point about?

It is a listed fine in the hunting regs. No harassing wildlife.

WOW..........some of you guys wear your panties WAAAYYYYY too tight..........it's a moose, not the last whooping crane, or Quagga, or Blue bull. Some of you guys have no sense of adventure, no imagination.....no one was hurt including the moose, which are about as sensitive as a New York cabby!!! There are animals that may be stressed to the point of death over a similar situation, however moose and caribou are not them. They are not nearly as tightly wound as a deer or sheep, which I could see there may be a problem there.
I have seen footage of a moose facing down a grizzly in Alaska, taken by a tourist. It was pretty impressive, they were on a gravel bar in a river and that bull kept that grizzly on the ends of this antlers. And he wasn't just being defensive either, there were a fair number of offensive moves on his part to as he tried to run the bear off the gravel bar......didn't see how it ended but the point is, moose are not fragile by any stretch of the imagination and are not the type of animals that are "frozen with fear". Oh ya and another fallacy is you can't chase a moose around a lake until it drowns, a) because they are too good a swimmers and are ALMOST buoyant b) because your boat wouldn't have enough gas...........you can't equate their swimming ability with that of humans, we are not designed to swim and spend days or even weeks in the water..........moose are, and are very good at it.
Was it an ill conceived idea ? Of course it was, but then so was riding the neighbors milk cow when I was a kid, which had more disastrous consequences for all parties involved, than a little moose hitchhiking!!!!!

This thread has really created a divide and shown some true colors of the members.

Maybe time for a poll. ;)

I do know who here I would like to join or have join me on a hunt and who I wouldn't.

This is not a hunting situation by any stretch of the imagination, and I don't believe one can glean any sense of hunter ethics from an adventurous stunt such as this. The party/parties involved may have the highest standard of hunting ethics..........and they may not, but I doubt that it has anything to do with some liquid courage shenanigans as shown here, any more than my hunting ethics could be determined from riding the neighbors milk cow, or any number of other stupid things I have done in my life.
I would ask if any of those on here who are so appalled by this harmless activity, have never driven home from a party or the bar after having a tad too much to drink or fudged the speed limit by 10 or 15 Kph, or darted across the street on a "Don't Walk" sign, or came back from the US without declaring EVERTHING. If so does this automatically mean you are an unethical hunter...............

I for one, am not so judgmental as to define a person by one ill conceived stunt.

a cow eh.. haha. thats a good one.

Any kid that grew up on the family farm/homestead of old, has ridden every type farm animal.
Pigs were by far the hardest of any other animal to stay on. Any big pig running loose in the farm yard would send its young, enthusiastic rider to the ground in a very few short seconds.

People are not acknowledging the difference between domesticated and wild beasts.

Any situation with a wild animal and a human encounter is a life and death moment for the animal, they know nothing else but flight or fight. They don't know what fun is.

A domesticated bovine will stand there and let you shoot it , a cow moose, not so much.

I just think it's hypocritical, I'm sure everyone who is appalled by this supports rodeo. And they've definitely caught and released a fish. Think of the stress a fish goes through as it fights for it's life with a hook in it's mouth. Then spends a couple minutes out of water while you hang it by the gills for a photo op. But it's ok because the fish was released and will probably live. That is done purely for our entertainment, how is this any different?

I'm not saying everyone should go out and ride a moose tomorrow but some peoples reaction to this is ridiculous. the BC conservation office is going on a manhunt? $100,000 fines and possible jail time?

The risk of getting yourself killed should be enough of a deterrent to stop a moose riding epidemic.

Karma says if they arrest the guy, they'll put him in a cell with a huge guy named "Moose" who will ride him. Problem solved, balance restored. :)

No doubt. I knew there were some total douchebags around here, but I never imaged there were so many.

better go back in time to charge Teddy, or perhaps the guy working his logs instead of using a domesticated horse?

Those are just so fake. The old photo is so obviously cut and paste it stinks. The logo on the back of the guys jacket in #2 says something about a Quebec harness horse club.

Lol that was goddamn crazy, made me smile seeing the painting of the Mounties riding the moose!
Don't we have enough hypacrites in are midst? Settle boy!
