Looking for a high end tactical style bolt-action .22LR - what are my options?

I’m in the market for a high end tactical/precision style .22LR that has a McMillan style sock (not Boyd’s) and a Lilja or Krieger barrel, or something equivalent.

I paid in full for a Sako Quad Trainer from EuroOptic back in late 2012 when they did a custom run of them. They were exactly what I wanted at the time, but unfortunately I got sidetracked while it was being built and went ahead and ordered a Kidd Supergrade with all the best parts. I then cancelled my Eurooptic order… a decision I’ve regretted ever since. Now I must have one and unfortunately Eurooptic is not building them again.

Anybody have any options for a .22LR that is spec’d similar to this one? I know there are other high end bolt action .22s out there but I’m not looking for a competition-style or wood stock rifle.

I’m willing to spend up to $3K before import fees etc, if needed. I’m not so concerned about the price as I am with getting what I want. I love my KIDD Supergrade but I just want a bolt-action rifle again. I’ll primarily be using it for target shooting and hunting, and will be mounting a Nightforce 2.5-10x42 NXS Compact on it (I’ve got the scope here so the price above is for the rifle only).

What are my options??

For reference here's the specs on the Eurooptic Sako Quad package:

Thanks :)

Had one in a Manners MCS-T4 OD green stock :)
Looking for something a little higher end.

I know its not bolt action but Wanstalls has Volquartsen.

I’ve handled them many times while at Wanstalls. They’re nice, but my Kidd feels a notch higher end :)

Maybe Coopers custom shop?

Emailed them, but I suspect they’re not really into this type of thing. One thing I noticed is that most .22LR’s come with that ridiculous dovetail scope mounting system. I specifically want a picatinny rail. No exceptions. And I definitely do NOT want on of those slip-on style rails like the ones DIP makes.

I suspect you'll only be happy with the very gun you wanted originally. Assuming you haven't exhausted the possibilities there....have you tried to track one down in the US? You could have Clay @ Prophet River bring it up/in for you. Register on RFC and post a WTB ad for one, NIB...and see what happens. Poke around on the SAKO forum there too.

New/in Canada options~a willingness/ability to drop $3K on a 22 and leaving-out the word "Anschutz" is a bit puzzling to me, but, to each his own. I don't think you'll find any tactical stocks on here, but I wouldn't consider a tactical stock good for hunting either. Have a good, long look through this site (a CGN sponsor) and note the stocks available. I wouldn't hesitate to contact NM either, tell them precisely what you're after. http://www.nordicmarksman.com/

.22LRGUY, thx for the suggestion! I'll check the link later. For the record I am open to Anschutz. They are nice, but not really the style I'm looking for.

BadAsMo, that rifle is completely opposite to what I'm looking for ;)

So why not build it your self? As others as have said you likely won't be happy unless you get what you want. I'd get a quad and order the stock you want, and get it coated, etc, or just find a shop/smith that will put it together for you, you could even shoot it while your waiting for the stock. Then have it stamped 1 of 1

Good idea. Only that Sako Quad from Euro Optic was a special run. It was made custom for that shop as a one-off deal. I've already contacted them and it would be difficult to replicate it as the shop that put them together isn't making any more :(

Looks like I'll have to stick to my secondary plan. I spoke to Mike at Tac Ops a few months ago and he can build me a Green Hornet. Only downside..it's ridiculously expensive.

Let us know what cooper has to say. Their 1/4" guarantee seems very promising.

Have you looked at a Sako quad range? I have a very similar stock on my Tikka sporter and its very comfy and the shape works well in lots of positions.

Looking for something a little higher end.

Anschutz 1827F action in a Manners MCS-EHF1 Carbon Fiber shell with custom inlet and a AI 28moa 30mm mount #3051. Might hurt the budget a weeeee bit! Lol. Once you try a Fortner action there is no going back! This coming from someone who has had the Anschutz 1712/1417 /CZ 455 Lilja /Kidd /VQ etc. etc. etc.

Start with this.... http://www.nordicmarksman.com/1827F-Barreled-Action-Heavy-Barrel.html and go tactical from there.... ;)

yep, once you go Anschutz, you'll never go back, I bought the 1907 barreled action from Nordic when a demo was on sale, freaking best non straight pull bolt action 22 period!!

I'm in a process putting it on a AICS stock, so I'll have a AIAW .22 trainner when I'm done.

I’m unfamiliar with the straight-pull action - how is it better than the below action? It sure is a hell of lot more expensive ;)

How does this action compare to the one above?

The Anschutz Model 54 bolt action is very nice, but still a bolt action.

The advantage of the Fortner action is the ability to minimize movement while cycling the action. If you watch videos of the Biathlon shooters you can see how fast they cycle the action and how minimal the movement is on the rifle. You basically just rotate the wrist 70 degrees up then down, to do a full movement of the action. Just need a good video to see how sweet it is. There is very little weight required for the action as well. Hard to explain but if you have the chance to cycle a 1827F action you'll be sold regardless of cost. The hard part is the aftermarket is so limited! A extremely accurate/reliable repeater action with 5 and 10 rd quality mags.

EDIT for video link- Have a look at the first video in this post---- http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1246439-Olympic-Bound-Shooter-Needs-Help!

Wow thanks for the vid link! Unreal. So fast and smooth. Like you mentioned, my only issue will be sourcing the other parts (stock, etc). How do I mount a scope on that action? Dovetail?
