You don't usually see "cheap" and "precision" in the same statement... for rather obvious reasons.

Give us a price range and you'll get better answers. :)

Brother, you're in the precision forum; where you can't do it "cheap" because you don't settle for "good". :)

The easiest way to answer, is knowing your budget and expectations.

Dime-sized groups eh? Always knew those competition guys were nuts to be spending thousands of dollars on their "precision rigs" when you can buy a $700 Savage and shoot sub 0.5 MOA groups all day!

What kind of groups are you getting with factory ammo? This rifle has caught my attention recently.

.68" on my first(only one i shot yet) with hornady superformance match 168 gr. A-max and .82 with federal sierra gameking match 168 gr.

I'm not gonna say I can do it all day, the truth is, done it twice and I was very impressed. It will easily do 4-5 shots in a quarter or loonie, which to me is totally acceptable.

Depends what you are into, I personnaly barely shoot paper anymore with my 10TR, I prefer gong shooting at unknown distances. And I dont feel the need for a 3k and up setup to shoot and have fun.

I'm at a dilemma right now. The savage 10tr is close to the max price point that i'm willing to pay for a paper puncher. The other contender is the weatherby vanguard that guarantees sub moa with federal power shok. And on the very low end is a savage axis which is capable of sub-moa but no guarantees obviously.

Tikka varmints are a great buy...find one in a 260 and go shoot.

Brand new they are a little over $1k plus tax. At that point i may as well start looking at the savage 10 hs, savage 12ftr, tikka t3 sporter. All great rifles but i have to stay within a budget right now. Maybe in 5 years i may start looking into $1500+ rifles. Imagine teaching a kid how to drive with a ferrari instead of a honda civic.
