22-250 for deer

I will be using my 22-250 for deer this fall sorry, will try some 70gr speer and barnes, I know shot placement and bullet choice are very important, I always go for a heart and lung shot or I won't shoot

I would go for the heaviest TSX or TTSX your particular rifle will shoot well. With a bullet that size and weight it is all about penetration and weight retention.

Good luck man. Looking forward to the pictures this fall.

Federal Fusions are bonded and should easily work. Heavier bullets the better, but .22-250 should be dynamite on jumpers. I would try one here in Sask, but our laws are just plain asinine.

why try one? Why not just use what is legal in your Prov and that has been working for you? Why do you wanna go so light? Oh yeah, you are not the one that it would be tried "upon"! Now I see! Carry on!

a friend of mine has shot some of his deer with the 22-250 using the factory 55 grain bullets loaded in federal ammo .only thing i hear him say that it sure ruins some of the meat .

oh come on not Many deer are 300lbs and tough as nails ,most are less then 100lbs and got ribs the size of a pencil once you get the meat off them ,,a good 22 cal bullet will get the job done ,,Dutch

The only deer out here that "are less than 100lbs and got ribs the size of a pencil" are the ones with spots still on 'em !

OP...if you must use the .22 caliber, use something like the TSX or a bonded bullet that will stand the best chance of holding together should it hit bone.

Get off your moral high horse. I have shot animals with .22 centerfires - enough to know that they would easily drop deer with the appropriate bullet and shot placement - as is important with any caliber.

I do not understand why so many people underestimate the power of the 22 250 ,,.guys that hunt with them all winter will tell you how good thy are ,guys that donot will tell you thy are not big enough for deer ,,,.Dutch

Most people that advocate against using a 22 centerfire and a premium bullet either have never done it, or are not good enough shooters to ensure good shot placement.

If you use your 22-250

Load a premium bullet
Check it's accuracy at any distance you are inclined to shoot (22 ceneterfires will run out of steam faster than a 300 magnum, of course)
Practice and make sure of your skills
Put the premium bullet behind the shoulder of your deer
Start skinning and gutting.....

The 55gr Win PSP with the canalure holds together fine on deer in either the .223 or triple deuce.Lung shot or neck is lights out.Harold

I have shot a couple of mule deer and several wolves ("tougher" than deer IMHO) with the 60 grain Partition launched at 3500 fps out of my 22-250. Pick your shot - broadside double lung is preferable - and you will be eating venison
