Savage 10TR le/military

Frontier and SFRC both have the 10TR in stock. I'm sure there's more retailers as well.
If your looking at the FCP-SR, be careful because they released a newer model which doesn't compare to the original.

Thanks for the tip! It looks like SFRC only has the 20" in stock. I an thinking the 24" might be a little more versatile. I'll see what Frontier has. Also, is there any real difference between the TR and the FCP-SR? likewise, what makes the newer FCP-SR less gun than the older one?

Thanks!

The 10TR has the 5R rifling and I don't think (but not sure) that the FCP-SR does, that and they are usually a couple of hundred bucks cheaper.

So how does the bottom metal work with the bolt release?

I have pics somewhere in this thread....*** edit*** post #424

The easiest thing to say, is it doesn't.... But it did ship with a little aluminum thing-a-ma-bob that is supposed to be attached to the lever in the trigger guard to make it work. I didn't bother, I use a dental pick or a bullet tip with the rifle pointed straight up whilst resting on a table to "drop" the bolt out.....

Considering I only ever need to remove the bolt when doing a copper scrub every 300 rounds or so I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of installing the little bit with the CDI bottom metal.....

And it uses the same mags that I already had for the Ruger Scout Rifle.... So win win, in my book!

I'm not sure about how the TR compares, but the newer FCP-SR has a cheaper stock and magazine than the older one. There's some american forums that talk about the difference. I just mentioned it in case you are looking at reviews and were not aware that theres an old version and a new version. This is the old version which costs significantly more $$

Frontier has the 24" TR in stock here:

thanks sTraTz! I looked all over Frontier's site (or so I thought!) and didn't see that 24" TR. and thanks for the info on the differences between generations of FCP-SRs.

ha! This decision is killing me! I've been going back and forth and all over the place for a new LR/precision rig for a few weeks now!

Although that said, the TR seems to be the only choice if I keep the gun itself to under a grand. :)

Tell me about it!
I just pulled the trigger on the older FCP-SR last night. Savage is offering a $100 rebate so I got sucked in.

nice! anything other than the rebate that swung you to the FCP-SR?

Mostly I liked the detachable 10 round mag and the color.
I feel like a read a few too many negative posts about the TR's, but given there's alot of them around.
I am a total newbie to these rifles though, so no expert opinions here.

FYI, here's the rebate link for a bunch of savage rifles.

I have a cadex stock for mine since 2 week however I can't lossen one of the action screw..... and it's now completely striped... bastard you guys have no idea how much I want to instal that stock and give her a try!

I had the same thing happen to me when I went to swap mine into the XLR chassis. I just bought a replacement action screw then I drilled out the stripped screw head. Once I got the action seperated from the stock I used a pair of vise grips to spin out the rest of the stubborn screw. :)

I also picked up a 10tr 24 inch barrel 3 weeks ago I thought a good way to do some long range shooting (400 yd range out my back door ) at a great price 600 ex display model (no rail), lucked out on a new in box vortex diamond back hp 4X16 325.00 then mounted it with weaver 2 piece bases 11 dollars and leoplod qrw rings 75 dollars(only setup my local shop had ) Total 1011.00 plus tax on gun .First 2 shots at 50 yds didn't even hit paper thought I got a lemon moved to 25yds still nothing on paper Thought man what the hell is going on (local gun shop had bore sighted it and mounted scope). Back to the house mounted on bench target on wall 25 feet away lined up scope removed bolt looked down barrel adjusted scoped 2 inches above bore. Sigh of relief after 5 shots I was back to 100 yds and within an inch of center Glad I didn't pay to have it bore sighted.Started to work up a load after 50 shots the gun will now shoot 5 round group under .5 moa The gigantic bolt takes some getting used too but it does its job The only thing that I feel needs changing is the trigger I will probably go with a rifle basics trigger. Can't wait to see what it does with fire formed brass first 100 round was with virgin brass This is a great BUY IMO Time to push it out to 200yds

I've come to like my 20" TR so much I am even considering buying another and just tossing it in the safe. SFRC has a few in stock.

PS: anyone wanting more rigidity from the accustock; mount the bipod on the rear sling swivel and use a sling attachment on the front swivel as an anchor connected to where the 'key-chain' ring would be (I used a cotter pin) This setup is rock solid. Also flipped the legs backwards for the locks to clear and I removed the rear sling mount and filled the hole as my left is the sand-bag.

So jelly. That's what I intend on doing with mine. Did you bed it? Are there any issues with the front bolt release?
