Anyone know anything about killing weasels?

Gonna camp out tonight between 8-12 and see what happens.
Thanks for the sss tip FLHTCUI! Got it!

Dude, you do know I am sitting here spitting coffee all over my laptop and dribbling down my shirt because of how serious you are right now???
The first bit of advice was the mulberry bush going round and round, you guys just can not make this stuff up !!
Do you need a camera man, I could be there in as little as a few hours or as long as eight hours depending just how far away you are cause this is going to be an epic thread this time tomorrow morning....
LoL LoL !!!
Stay Safe,
Rob

Weasels are tricky. As mentioned before a good barn cat can do the trick. Mine killed one a few years ago. Make sure there are no holes anywhere if you don't want them attacking your livestock cause they could fit into a quarter sized hole. I had a weasel kill all my chickens in the one coop (about 20 of em), it will suck all the blood out of the chickens, or rip its ass open and eat all the eggs.

Thanks for the clarification doc25! I definitely agree about the degree of a chicken's intellect! There will be no open type traps on the coop side. Just along the path of entry.
And sunray, thanks for the mulberry bush lesson! I was really confused about that one! LOL! The cheese part, I'm not so sure. These buggers are vampires!

If my wife and kids weren't so upset, I would be a lot more jovial! One of the roosters that got killed last night was a survivor with attitude and my kids' favorite. My wife is almost crying as we've had a bad year on the farm due to the lack of rain and now, we have to get more layers. So yeah, I feel very vengeful right now!
I hope I nail the thing tonight! We can't afford to lose more birds!

Friend's hobby chicken farm in MR is guarded by their German Shepard. Crazy dog even tries to chase away bears. Being a 60# dog the Yotes stay away.

Comes yote season hear lots of gunshots in the neighbourhood. Yup, lots of folks doing construction with 22 blanks.
Don't need to do 3S in MR. Just bag, leave on side of road, call city to pick up road kill which they do no questions asked.

CanAmmo has sale on slugs for your shotgun though 22lr is better idea

Sorry guys,
Gonna go with the steel toed boot, machete, spade option. I won't have any hearing left if I use a shotgun in the coop! I need to hear the bugger coming. Don't own a .410 either. Slugs I got but there won't be much left of the critter or my coop if I use a slug!
Update. Just camped in the coop for an hour, nothing but my kids saw it this time and it's black and sleek...a mink!!!

get some rat traps with the pans instead of the little metal trigger for cheese ..put them along the walls no bait needed thy will walk on the pan ,you can make a pan from the hard plastic from election signs ,,good luck and it does sound like a mink ,,I have heard of owls killing chickens like this as well ,,Dutch

Those rat traps won't kill a mink. Don't use the shovel. If you miss you won't get a second chance. Wear muffs if you need to. Personally I would use the shotgun. No slugs though. If it grabs a chicken while you're there blast them both. You need to kill this. Predator. Not sure what your place looks like but can you find this things runway? Where it's coming out of the "woods" or grass? That would be a good place to set up a trap as well.

If you have a 45-70 you could shoot 2.5" .410 shells.

A set of sound amplifying ear muffs can be had for cheap and they will let you hear better and protect your hearing at the same time.

A trapper I worked with said that anything other than Marten he'd just squeeze them with his hands until their hearts stopped.

I never could figure out if he was 5hittin' the city boy geologist.

Kill em with fire!!! KILL EM WITH FIRE!!!

Kidding, I've shot a few and seriously a .410 will do you best. Though I've use 12 gauge with #8 or higher and it doesn't do to much damage and it doesn't richochet. Personally I love the little buggers, very fast and fight like a raped ape. Mice and rats get cleaned up fast. But chickens are a favourite past time for them... Get it fast as it won't stop til it gets all the chickens. They have been known to take much larger birds.... I've even heard a few guys say they'll go after geese.

Mink certainly makes more sense than a weasel. Especially considering that kind of volume. They are so fast, you really should "over-gun" as you will put in a lot of time, for a very tricky and fleeting shot.

It's getting in somewhere, and it's coming from somewhere. You're farrrrrrrrrrrr better off waiting en route with a 12 gauge. In 36 years on a bird farm, and the hundreds of predators I've ended, I've only ever nailed 2 mink.

Sorry to hear about the birds. Your only option is to build an enclosed coop, complete with wired windows and a decent ventilation system. If not, consider this like your own personal "Groundhog day," and count down the days until it happens again.

Good luck

Just a note on characteristics: Weasels are basically oblivious. If you sit quietly enough, they will run right over your boot without giving it a thought. Mink are very aware and sneaky. Think of them like the greaseball, mob-connected cousin of the simpleton "dockworker" weasel. Nasty beetches, for sure!
