Ruger Precision Rifle; Who's getting one?

Just waitin' for range reports .

http://www.ruger.com/micros/rpr/standings.html#1600

Ruger is actually encouraging owners to post their groups and LR hits on Ruger's own website. Brilliant marketing. Still combing the web for range reports though. I expect we'll start seeing them very soon now that our neighbors to the south are getting their hands on these guns.

Edited to add:
There is a fairly long thread about the Ruger Precision Rifle over on Sniper's Hide. Range reports start on about page 9. Nothing too long range yet, most reports are at 100 yards, but the gun does look very promising. 0.2 - 0.4 MOA at 100...

I figured we have derailed the other Ruger thread(s) enough so I thought I'd start a new one to see who all has already put their money down on the new Ruger Precision Rifle, who is planning to, and who is just hanging back waiting to see if they really are as good as the seem to me.

Me, I put my money down on one in 6.5 Creedmoor last week when Wanstalls announced their pre-order. With any luck we'll see them by the end of August. I managed to find 3 boxes (3x50 pieces) of Horandy brass at WS today as well as a couple boxes of Hornady 140 gr. AMAX's. As I was already in the market for a precision rig and this is significantly cheaper than other guns I was looking at, I now have extra money to put into good glass, accessories and reloading equipment.

I'm leaning toward an RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme with Redding dies at this point, but I'm open to suggestions. Bipod will probably either be an Atlas or maybe a Harris if I end up over spending on reloading gear or glass... As far as glass goes, I'm leaning towards Nightforce right now. I really like everything that I have read about the Sightrons but my experiences doing low light shooting in a precision/tactical rifle course that I took a couple of years ago have given me a strong preference for scopes wit illuminated reticles as well as killer glass.

So who wants to go next?

I have sent two emails to wanstalls to put one on order. No luck. Maybe I'll call. The redding comp dies are pretty nice. When I first got my dies I also bought a cheap set of lee collet dies. My buddy had a micrometer to measure the concentricity of the seating die, and both were about the same. I like the bushing option on the redding dies, change a bushing, change how tight the round is held in there. I think the redding comp dies set me back $200 to $300. The Lee's set me back $50. Both are accurate. And there is nothing wrong with a rockchucker for loading LR ammo.

Order placed for 308. I cant wait till it gets here. I still dont know if it comes with the two mags like the ones sold in the USA. Any one know what we will get?

Thanks for the info! So other than a little convenience, the Reddings don't have a lot of advantage over the Lee diesmfor 5x the price?

Good luck with Wanstalls! They are usually really good about returning emails. Typically if they are not getting back to you, either yours or their emails is going into one or the other's spam folder. Maybe calling Gary is a good idea.

Considering our mags will be pinned to 5, they should be giving us 4 of them! Joking aside, I don't see any reason why we wouldn't get the two mags that they leave the Ruger factory with.

Was going to order one in 6.5 until I tried to find ammo (I don't reload). Found just one box of 6.5 so I placed an order for the Ruger in 308.

The 5 round mag restriction only applies to semi autos. Since this is a bolt gun you can use more. At the very least you can use AI 10 round mags, which according to the Ruger web site - this rifle will accept.

Correct, but the RPR comes with PMags which unfortunately are made to go in a semi-auto which means they will have to be pinned to 5 rounds to be legal. Hence my tongue-in-cheek comment about Ruger owing us 4 mags to make up the 20 rounds the American customers get with 2 mags. ;) AI mags fit (just ordered some!) so we do have a 10 round alternative in Canada. Sadly they cost 4 times as much as .308 Pmags do, but whatcha gonna do? :( at least we have something.

Steel Ruger Scout Rifle mags should work as well.

That is correct. The redding's are much more convenient. The seating die and it's micrometer adjustment (I think that's what it's called) is very slick. I'll put it this way, were I to get back into f-class, whatever caliber I was using I would buy the redding's. When loading a hundred or so for every other weekend, they are pretty nice. For loading plinkers, lee's are just as good. Accuracy between the two is the same, it's just easier to load volume with the redding's, for my mileage anyway.

Do the redding fit in a Rbcs press ?

Might as well throw your Nemesis into that future comparison/review...... :)

Could do that but, i know the outcome, the Nemesis will chew them both, it's not because i keep quiet about it...
The rifle is still performing .2 -.3 MOA groups everytimes... JP.

I didn't realize that! More options are always good. Thanks for the tip! Also, I wonder if the polymer ones fit as well?...

Ah, gotcha. Thanks again for the info. I think I'd prefer to load a hundred or two at a time once I get the recipe nailed down, so I think I may be leaning towards spending the money on the Reddings. But that said, I guess I'll need to see how much I spend on glass and a press to see what's left to spend on dies!

Where did you get the 6.5CM from, Canada or US store?
Mind sharing the price?

Still debating the RPR vs Tikka T3 CTR in 260 Rem.
Purchased one in 6.5CM. Now on the hunt for RCBS dies and some brass. Looking forward to working up some effective loads.

Have just ordered a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T scope with a TMR reticle and M5 turrets.

Counting the days til it arrives.

The Forster Co-Ax B3 has lots of leverage for easy sizing. Give great feel for seating. From pressure alone easy to tell the tighter necks resulting in longer OAL.

I'm waiting as well for real world reviews. Not reviews from people bring paid to say nice things. I really like the look, the mag capabilities, and the price. I'm still not sure if 308 or 6.5 yet. But if reviews are as good as they claim, I'll be getting one.
