FYI - Mailing Restricted Firearms

I mail guns weekly at my local Canada Post office. Apparently they know I mail firearms (maybe they have xray glasses or are just good at sizing up packages I have no idea). Anyways they almost would not ship my rifles today. They said "these are firearms right?" Yes, they are.

"We cant mail them without documemtation anymore since the bomb scare" is the response I got. I told them there was no documentation for long guns since the end of the registry. Turned into an argument with the clerk. Luckily there was an old postie in line behind me who happened to be a shooter also. He explained to the clerk that the new rules only apply to restricted guns so they accepted the packages to make a short story long

Anywho, heads up on new regulations for mailing guns. Yes, one could mail whatever they want and Can Post will likely never know the contents but there are severe penalties for mailing ammunition and it looks like new rules are in the pipe for handguns....which require a copy of the registration or att or ? on the outside of the package. It is not yet clear......
 
New regulations from who ? the clerk ? because theres no new regulations about firearms on Canada Post website.

You know what will happens if you put a copy of the registration on the package ?

Your package will get stolen period !


Here's an excerpt from Canada Post website about shipping firearms: '' Firearms cannot be shipped via air and cannot have any markings on the outside of the packaging. The customer is solely responsible for meeting all Canadian Firearms Centre regulations. ''

Also their rules doesn't make distinction between restricted and non restricted, it's a firearm.

That is a good example why you never ever tell the clerk what's in your package, because most of the time they don't know snit about their own regulation.

FORGET THAT.

Can you guess how many will go "missing" if the paper work is on the outside telling everyone what's inside
 
Even if they would ( which i doubt ) they cannot enforce this policy and nobody will comply, for obvious reason.

It's completely illogical, a rule like that will create lots of problems and lots of missing package.

BTW, you're right there are severe penalties for mailing ammunition: it's not allowed. Dangerous goods, you know?

And I believe they will find out, because I think all package go through X-ray at the sorting facility. For sure if they have to travel on air cargo, and almost certainly for some sensitive destinations.

They don't all get scanned, not by a large margin. I know of many people and several businesses who have shipped full ammo cans via CP without issue for years. Just another FYI, your luggage when you fly rarely gets x-rayed as well. In both cases it costs too much to have it done, to pay someone to watch the monitor, and it slows down progress which cuts into the bottom line.
