Not sure how odd it sounds... But has anyone (particularly solo hunters) slept in their portable tree stands? Is there regulation that prevents it?

Any stories to tell? ;)

I imagine most people will setup tent/camp but surely there must be at least one feller who as done this? :d

my first time out in one, i almost fell asleep.. haha. out there an hr before sunrise trying to stay awake.

not a bad idea though if you have one big enough to sleep in. it would be an awesome tree fort!!

just make sure to set up a camera, so we can all get a good laugh at you falling out of the tree stand, comedy like that is worth air time on America's Funniest Video's

I have done this. I wish I had pictures of the epic tree stand I built about 10 years ago! It was about 10 feet wide and 8 feet deep. my buddy and I winched an old couch up there and everything :) nothing to exciting happened but an owl kept waking me up. Lol

Not in a portable stand, but I have had many a restful afternoons in a built wooden tree stand or ground blind flaked out in a camp chair when I worked shift work.

Ha-ha... I definitely wouldn't mind sharing such a video :D ... but if I try this, I'll be harnessed for safety, so probably wouldnt be too funny to see

I've fallen asleep in my stand more than a handful of times.... It must be the fresh air and sounds of nature... One time I awoke to a 350 pound bruin pulling the logs out of my bait barrel.... That was a good day.

Sleeping in a tree stand, or a blind? Sure, I do it all the time...never intentionally, never planned, but it just seems to happen!

If you've ever dozed off in an airport, or during a boring meeting or maybe a movie, you know how confused you can sometimes momentarily be when you are woken. Believe me, that feeling is way more intense when you wake up in a tree! :)

It's not the falling that'd be funny. It's the hanging from the safety strap/harness part.
Only fell asleep while sitting comfortably on the ground waiting for tree rats. Best nap I've ever had.

Not sure if that would be better or worse as far as scent goes. Less area to track it over, but you'd really be marinating the area in your scent all night.

I went out for an afternoon deer hunt. It was raining so I went to the portable blind I setup earlier in the week. Crawled in about 2:30 got all setup and woke up well after dark. Was a great sleep. The rest of camp was wondering where I was when I came wandering in all well rested.

In a treestand, I'd try my best to avoid it. The waking up can be awful

I used to hunt with an old guy who always fell asleep when deer hunting, he would read to stay awake. I used to worry I would be looking for him in the dark. Now I have the same problem and worry about waking up after dark and having to find my way back home.

When I used to climb yes there was a time or two or three a nap was part of the program. My trick was make sure your safety lin is attached up the tree so you only have about 6 inches of slack. You are still able to shoot sitting or standing but do not have enough rope to fall off your seat.

As I get older and hunt off the ground it happens. Especially in the spring turkey hunting those 3 am mornings get tough after a couple weeks. This year heard birds at daylight then they shut down. Hang out til about 9 and thought I will have a short nap before a long walk back to the house. About 10 minutes in i hear wings dragging in the corn stubble. Open one eye and a tom is at full strut at 4 feet between me and the decoys. Gun in my lap of course. He looks from me to the decoys about 6 times then turns and commits. Butt on to me at full strut he hears me raise the gun and looks back around the edge of his tail. That`s where one of my best naps ended and a long walk back home toting a tom started. Sometimes a nap can be a good thing

My cousin went out after work to hunt by himself. He got there just ahead of prime hunting time, last light. Next thing he knew, he awoke to pitch black. Couldn't see his hand in front of his face. He'd been so dead asleep when he woke up he didn't immediately know where he was. Had a bit of a time finding his light. Big home made stands have certain advantages, like not waking up hanging from a strap. I'm sure if that had been me, on my little chain on tree stand, I'd have fallen out.
He says he's sure three herds of deer went under his stand while he was asleep. :D

Falling asleep in a tree stand for me is an absolute impossibility. Tree stands are in trees and I have an aversion to heights. Anything over 8 feet and I'm a basket case. In my folding chair, now that's another matter.
