Romanian SKS

Found some old 2013-2014 adds on american sites selling them for $250-300 so by purely being Romanian I doubt it's much more valuable here... Probably more than russian just due to amount here though.

All matching ones usually sell for $400-500 US on GunBroker so $800-1000 CAN by the time they were imported

I fail to see why something (manufactured in the gazilions, all over the world) that goes bang if you pull the trigger would suddenly fetch more money just because of the originating country. It's not like Romania was known to be the significantly better at manufacturing firearms than Russia in the 1950's.

I admit I don't know much about collecting firearms, however common sense dictates to pay the same amount of money on the same product regardless who makes it, unless we're talking about manufacturing the same watch in Bangladesh or Switzerland. Having lived more than half of my life in Romania, and served in the army there, I can tell you that Romania was not as good at manufacturing firearms as Switzerland is at manufacturing watches. No disrespect to the fine people working in those factories in Romania, they did what they were told, with the resources that were available and on machines that were in some state of disrepair. So IMHO, the Romanian SKS it's not going to be significantly better just because it's from Romania.

I say save your money and buy something you want to shoot because it's something you WANT to shoot it, not because of where it's made. Now if you can buy it for $200 and can sell it to somebody for $5-800, absolutely do it.

Some people want to have one from every country and they are willing to pay for it. The fact that there is so little of a couple countries examples here drives the price up.

This is my reasoning. I like the SKS rifle and hope to have one from every country that manufactured them someday. A Romanian version would cost much more than a Russian or Chinese because they are much more scarce.

C1A1, this isn't the first time you've made this thread. Also, the last time you made it you said you had been offered an East German SKS as well. I will tell you what I told you last time: the scope is aftermarket, Romania did not make an SKS that took optics. Furthermore, you PM'd me last time and said you'd be getting me pictures of both rifles so I could check them out for you and I never heard from you again. This was on 11-02-2014.

I wouldn't suggest anybody here hold their breath.

You are right. The owner sold them before I even got to see them. He comes up here to the Nicola Valley for fishing several times a year, usually bringing some interesting rifles to sell.

Could be both... people move.

Could be, I'm not trying to be a ####. There was a post back here from a pretty well known braggart and liar (not C1A1) who said he had an East German and North Vietnamese SKS. Happy to tell more in PM's, I don't want to get banned and I'm on thin ice already.

value of any item depends on supply and demand. and it doesn't matter who originally made them or who is good at making them. quite often the collectables are the failed products.

for Romanian SKS , there isn't a huge demand but the demand still out weight supply so it will sell higher than Russian and Chinese and even the Yugo (if the same condition.)

Not to mention they are likely the best made sks after you get over the russo daze. Didnt make many of them either compared to the millions of chinese, yugos, and russos. Just my .02
