i read in col. townseed wheelen's old article in G&A that the charge used at fort brenning at the time was 39 grains of 3031 under a sierra 168 boat tail in a 1:10 barrel, it was kept confidential so that the russians would not get hold of it before the olympic matches... it would be common to get 2.5 inch 30 shot groups at 300!! little piece of history...got to find some 3031 for some testing.
