I see the m14.com I see the absolute abomination of an arch angel. I see the handy man special do it yourself boyds wood stocks.

Why is there no decent plug and play stocks ? Wood or synthetic. They either cost as much as the rifle, look terrible or require fitting, sanding, bedding ect...

I would kill for a 140-300 price range stock. Wood or synthetic with some grip spots.

I have a small work bench, with basic tools. No place to be staining or curing, even sanding is a slight issue indoors if its enough.

I cant be alone on this late night rant can I ?

There is nought wrong with the stock M305 plastic stock...it is the lightest & strongest stock
you will find until someone makes an affordable carbon fiber replacement. The USGI fiberglass
stock is a weak noodle in comparison. Go ahead and mod your plastic stock, put an AR adjustable buttstock
on it, paint it to suit, chop it, whatever. If you don't like it, buy an M14.CA or a Choate or an EBR.
Most of us will probably be more impressed if you DIY from scratch though. FWIW.

Our Southern neighbours don't have access to the inexpensive Norinco M305s, so they haven't developed that many aftermarket products for it... Most of them won't do too much to their M14/M1A. Our market just isn't that big!

VLTOR is an excellent stock, but not for the budget minded.

In the YMMV category, I think the factory plastic stock (Nork or Poly) are awful. USGI or Springfield fiberglass stocks are much better, and fairly cheap.

I have no MAJOR issues with the stock my norc came in. My norc has surpassed all my expectations with a simple spring guide rod change 2.5 inch grouping on average with surplus ammo and irons at 100.

I just don't see why there hasent been a Canadian supplier jump on this ? Im wondering if I could order a wood stock from Springfield.

This or I may try to source a stock on the EE and do some stippling and play with it a bit. I just don't want to dive into a project and have my favorite rifle out of commission while I try to fix the harm ive done in messing around with it.

I used to be Canada"s only maker of quality , hand made custom composite stocks.... I retired as everyone wanted my stocks to be 300 or less LOL
M14 owners would see much more product availlable for their rifles by industry if more than 1/2 of them weren't so fricken cheap LOL
My stocks sold for 549 but if I ever did it again, they would be more.

If you put a WTB ad in the EE, I bet you will find plenty of old plastic M305 stocks offered for cheap. Get one or two and experiment to your heart's content....

IMO the Norc stocks only need some texture on the grip and forend but not much more. Krylon paint and semi-gloss clear coat dresses it up nicely.

How much do you have invested so far? You are getting results on par with a US made rifle(maybe) that costs over $1000.00 which is pretty nice.

Too bad you don't like the Arc Angel as it's the only option in your price range ( used).

Check out what a whole bunch of us have done to the chinese plastic stocks (and usgi glass stocks) in the M14s 2500rd Review and a DIY Mod-Stock walk through thread. Saves a guy big in the pocket if a "tactical type stock" is in your wish list.

Seem to remember that some time ago someone posted a mod to the Plastic Norc stock (maybe GI can't remember) that had him epoxy steel or brass tubes into the barrel channel that greatly increased the rigidity of the stock. Might be worth looking into along with THE AR stock mod. Cheap, easy and functional.

If a mod stock by 45acp comes up on the EE, buy it.

I'll take that as a compliment hehehe
I don't see many of the stocks I've made over the years go up for sale in the EE, both full customs from scratch(over 300 out there) or the USGI and Chinese modstocks(lost count of those).
I have no plans to start doing modstocks again, besides it's super easy to do it yerself. ;)

Most aftermarket stock will be as expensive as the rifle and it's the same story for other platform.

If you change the stock just keep in mind it could change your point of impact and/or accuracy.
What about an E2 stock?

I mean, synthetic. Yea I can see it but a wood stock ? I guess if still small... I would shell out 200 for a nice wood stock drop and play.

Oh yah, im super pleased with the rifle itself. Im just super OCD on my rifles and would kill for a nice wood stock or a monte carlo style synth
