How are things shaping up this year for Upland numbers? Crops are coming down and the Hun opening is only a couple weeks away here in Alberta, things are shaping up for a great season.

Have seen some healthy family groups. Good forage and looking forward to a strong year.

In our area central Sask. numbers are way down for a number of reasons weather, hawks etc. There are a lot of non resident hunters around here and I have watched them go down a tree row with a couple of dogs, four walkers and a couple of blockers and virtually wipe out what ever upland comes out , its all legal but I still don't like it.

haven't been out and about for a while. They were scarce last year around here, I suspect the same this year. I just bought a new 410 yesterday. I hope to get a few, but who knows!

Ruffed Grouse numbers look to be in good shape in NE BC, continuing an increasing trend over the past couple of years. I saw a hen with 8 large chicks in my yard last week. That's good survival! Spruce Grouse numbers are also pretty high, or at least were last year, and our spring weather was decent. Sharp-tails seem to be ok, stable. Can't really say anything about blue grouse & ptarmigan; haven't spent much time in the high country lately.

Here in southern Manitoba the grouse seem to be abundant in some areas, yet in other areas there are very few.

Things are looking good for grouse in northeastern Ontario. I'm starting to see more and more birds out and about, especially compared to last year at this time. Only three more weeks!

went for a ride on the wheeler yesterday with my girlfriend.. saw 6-10 ruffed grouse on the trail.. maybe more but not sure if I saw the same ones more than once... 4 were on the trail at once so I got off the bike to get a closer look after they walked slowly into the bush... they were everywhere... I'm getting excited since it was a trail system that I've never noticed before and is only about 30 kms from town... the trails looked like they haven't been used in years... I spent quite a while hacking up fallen trees blocking the trail... only 2 more weeks for me up in northern ontario... goin back out today with my dog to see if I can do a bit more training with her before the season starts...

went for a walk with the dog today... she must have flushed atleast a dozen... I'm looking forward to what looks to be a promising season... I've seen more birds in the last two days than I did all last season

Where I am in the cariboo. The numbers are down. See the odd one out. Mind you I am not looking for them yet.
Just part of the cycle. Rabbits numbers are up.
