Walther P22- pretty sure I'm screwed

So I take my girlfriend to the range the other day. She wants to learn to shoot. Great!!! So I load up a few of the regulars and this used P22 I bought off the EE. It's never given me any problems despite the reputation.

So she fired a few rounds then moved up to the bigger stuff. Atta girl. We had a great old time. Beautiful weather, empty range. Perfect.

That brings me to today Sunday gun cleaning day. Now, I'll admit other then clearing and locking up the pistols for transport home. I didn't pay that close of attention to them. Perhaps it's my fault.

I've cleaned all my others and now I'm about to clean this P22. They are a pain in the butt in my opinion to strip. So I go to clear the gun.... What the hell? Why is the slide catch engaging every time I pull back. Upon further examination..... The slide has cracked in two!!! On the left hand side, opposite the ejection port she has split from top to bottom!!! WTF? I know it was used and all but it hasn't den that much action, and to split from top to bottom. Wow! This is a first for me.

I will state openly that this pistol was not abused or neglected in my care. Never dropped, thrown, used as an anchor, boomerang, back scratcher... Nothing but plinking and not very often!

So fellas, what to do. Mantle piece? It's not worth what I'll have to pay in sure to repair it or find a replacement slide. As far as I know there are no Walther reps in Canada.

What do I do???

I was going to buy one of these years ago did some research on them and that was a problem for some of them. As for parts or warranty I would look for a gun shop that handles them and start asking questions
 
Dang, brother! I have heard of some slide related problems but not cracked all the way through. If we were in the US, depending on the type of break, it could be a warranty issue but we are in Canada! Slides are expensive and will involve some paper work to cross the border. Might cost as much as a new pistol. I don't know how feasible it is to get it professionally welded!?! You might have to look for a parts gun or sell yours as one. Good luck, man!
 
Cheers fellas. It's a real let down. Fortunately, I have a few other 22 pistols. I have always loved my P99. I figured the P22 would be as reliable. I figured wrong. I'll have to make some calls tomorrow.
 
Call Walther first, they are amazingly helpful if they can be. As to the rest, give it to a smith for parts if nothing else. Gets it off your name but doesn't waste what is left of a good gun. (If it were me I would get the slide welded and keep using it.)
 
I have a P22 and North Sylva was the warranty rep for these pistols in Canada , maybe contacting them would be faster than WaltherUSA .com
 
Thanks everyone. Been a while since I have been on this post. The fella I had gotten to weld it. Destroyed the slide. It's really broken now. So I'll look into parting it out or giving it someone who will use it. Already sold my mags.
 
I bought a brand new slide from an air gun dealer for around 80 Canadian dollars. The dealer was out of Saskatoon. Call around, find out who does repair who for Walther. It isn't hard. There is no need to throw the pistol out.

This OP just seems to be bound and determined to throw this pistol out. He has been given a ton of good info, some by you previously as well about how cheap replacement slides are and from others about where to get them and the story seems to just get worse. I mean for Pete's sake, he takes the slide and has it welded by someone who clearly had no idea what he was doing. This isn't exactly a rocket science fix we are talking about.

At this stage I don't think he can be helped.

Perhaps he just simply wants to get away from he considers a piece of junk.
 
A couple of you need to calm your judgmental selves down a notch. I still have the pistol, it's sitting in the safe where it has been since this little adventure happened. Yes the fella that worked on it did irreversible damage to it. However it was garbage anyway. The parts that are salvageable are no where near where the weld occurred. So take a pill and relax. I have many other functioning firearms and have been spending my time firing them in the meantime. I'll do what I damn well please with my firearm. If I decide to make it into a door stop, I'll do just that. Take your condescending,rude comments elsewhere. I've always enjoyed all the helpful folks on CGN over the years. I have no time for those that are just here to stir the pot and make rude comments. Do us all a favor and keep on scrolling.
