.17 accuracy

I assume many of you have known about the superb accuracy of the .17HMR for some time, however its all new to me.

As part of a trade, I recently found myself the owner of a CZ 452 fullstock carbine in .17HMR. I had read that it was a very accurate cartridge, but was skeptical about some of the claims. So today I strapped on an older model Swarovski 4-12X, bought the cheapest box of ammo I could find at Canadian Tire (Federal) and went to the range. At 100 yards the rifle shot 1/2 in. 5 shot groups without any effort and seemed to shoot more or less flat from 25 yards to 100 yards...at which point I ran out of range. Impressive.

Yup, the hummer is fantastic. I found that winchester ammo doesn't work well in my cz, but with CCI and hornady I get similar results until the wind starts blowing.

Nice!!! A FS 452 in .17, I'd love one of those, especially in left hand! I've got 3 HMR's, one is a CZ Canadian, and they all shoot well. The HMR outdoes the LR and WMR in the wind.

I just measured those little groups and they were 1/2 inch groups, not 3/4...even better than I thought. An amazing cartridge in a nice little rifle. It doesn't quite have the fit and finish of my Brno Model 5 .22LR (made in 1954), but its close enough. And it shoots.

They are awesome shooters. As stated above try horandy ammo. In all my. 17 hmr I noticed a better group over the winchester ammo.

The best I've been able to do with mine at 100. Pulled one shot due to a twitch in my hand just as I was squeezing the trigger. And that is 5 shots. Would love to be able to do that again but it is very seldom you get zero wind at the range...

I really dig the Mach2. I wish some more manufacturers would start offering it....as well as some ammo!

Head shots on all of the above to 150 yards does the trick, very fun too.

What do you fellows do for cleaning the bore of the .17HMR?

Tipton .177" cleaning rod, proper bore guide, and same type patches and solvents as I use for my centerfire rifles.

I use a tipton carbon cleaning rod and a bore guide from possum hollow...clean my 17 much more than any of the 22's

200 yards in about a 15mph wind - CZ 455 .17HMR. The rifle is definitely more accurate than me.

The wee beastie. Has a Yodave Trigger kit installed. Scope is a Redfield revenge 3-9x40 on Talley CZ rings.

Precisely why I bought one to take out west for gopher shooting. I want to get back into 17M2, but that would rely on 2 things that may never happen. Finding a CZ452 in 17M2, and finding ammo easily. (or easier) I think 17M2 might be my favorite rimfire round, but searching for ammo for mine wore me out so I sold the rifle. (a Marlin)
