Hi,

I'm in Montreal and have a gun for sale on this site...
I have receive this "offer" ...

"Hi I am interested in your Winchester 22 WMR. I have always made it a habit of not buying from members with 0 ratings as all the risk would be on me. I have about 90 transactions on CGN at 100% positive feed back. You are a complete unknown risk. (based on your ratings) Its nothing personal but I would prefer a transaction where you ship me the gun and I send money once I receive it, my ratings should give you the confidence for this type of arrangement. EMT is very easy if you are already doing any online banking. Let me know if you are interested in what I am offering "

What do you think of such an offer ?
Please note that I have chosen to hide this BC member's name.

Should I send my gun like that ?

Does the member have a valid PAL?

No, I wouldn't ship the rifle without first being paid.
Stores don't do this either.

Good thing you didn't post the prospective buyers handle either.
Rules about things like this.

Maybe a lockith ith come'ith?

Ship COD (Cash On Delivery) and he pays for that service. Its not too expensive, check out Canpar, UPS, FedEx or Purolater for prices.

I don't care if he had 1 million positive rating. I wouldn't ship anything until I got the cash. Him saying that you should trust him because he has 90 positive rating is enough for me NOT to trust him. It could have been 90 10$ items.

I think you should contact a few of the people he has dealt with in the past who have good trader ratings as a reference. I personaly would ask the same of you having done over $50k of transactions on this forum.

If you dont feel comfortable with the situation and cant put your nerves at ease through references and having buyers info (Pal, Phone number, email, confirm the address the buyer gives you with the address on file with the CFP when checking the PAL) then just tell the guy you would prefer a local deal. Maybe you can find a stand up CGNer who can help out the buyer and you by being the middle man on your end.

Thank you all !

I wanted to question the collective wisdom herein.
I believe that I have heard it !

I will not proceed further on this gentleman's offer.

Thank you all,

Dominik

Good choice! Like others said make some purchase to build your trader rating, always good buys to be found.

I started out with a couple local face to face deals to get a couple ratings. I haven't had any problems with low number of ratings, but can certainly understand someone being hesitant with your zero ratings. You have to understand there are a lot of scammers out there.

I don't ship firearms, until I have received payment, I don't care who the purchaser is, or what his trader rating is.

Totally agree. We all started out at 0 for a trader rating, and I've never been asked that. Going to the other side of the issue, I wouldn't try to make a new guy send me an item before payment, I'd just rather not try to initiate such a deal.

When cgn first started it was pretty common to send stuff before getting paid, but we were like 200 members and you actually knew most of the people.....
Now, not a chance.....lol. Pay first or piss off.

Exactly. I've sent before payment to people I "know" and had it done for me. Actually, just on this thread I'd ship before payment to Hitzy, stubblejumper, RobMc and kamlooky. Although I'm sure none of them would ask, anyway.

As for the original poster- no I wouldn't take the deal unless I could get someone I trust to vouch for him.

I've said, "I'll take it" on a few items here and sellers wished to be paid when I
was content with their offerings.
Pretty humbling indeed.

I have also bought from a few 0 rating folks.
They offered full disclosure of whom they were and a phone call
was all that was needed.

The gent that started this thread I would also buy from.......just because...........

Never ship before payment, unless you know or expressly trust the person. The buyer must take a little risk, and the seller must work to earn the trust of prospective buyers over time. It was the same for all of us, and most of us work hard to keep our rating at 100% as it is very important to us.

No problems anymore !

As the gun I was selling had blueing issues, I decided not to sell it.
I will eventualy send it to a confidence inspiring gunsmith when I'll find one and have the complete blueing redone right.

So I'm not about to gain any point as a seller and might not even get any either as a buyer as I just saw a 92 points member try to trick me.
