Hello guys, I'm look for a rifle with a budget of around 2000$. I would like a rifle that is preferably under 11 pounds with optics, in a non exotic cartridge capable of taking deer,caribou and moose, and still be a capable target rifle. I've been looking at the remington 5r in 300 win mag and the sako a7 roughtech pro in 7mm rem mag, but would building on a second hand remington 700 action be a better choice around this price point? I'll also be getting reloading equipment and supplies, so a lesser common cartridge could be an option.

Be under your 11lb goal. Tough for hunting. Lots of upgrade available for good prices. Solid caliber for all the game you listed, and for your target shooting plans.
They pop up for sale from time to time on the EE, and on other sale websites. Should be able to get one for under 1000$, then you'll have lotsa money for good glass....

Weight is not that bad , and why wouldn't I go hunting with this? It's only a rifle , same as any other, maybe a bit heavier but I have no problem shooting it off hand. But I'll admit a couple of pounds lighter wouldn't hurt , that's why I'm putting a CFB on. Other than an occasional hunt I'm only limited to target shooting as I have no long range competition around here. It's 11.2 lbs with the bipod and scope. Not sure what it will weigh with the lighter CFB. Anyway you said under 11 lbs , without optics, and 2 ginos

Get yourself a remy 5r in 308 , brake , accurize it and your good to go.

I did this to my 300 win 5r and its crazy accurate with hand loads. My smith is the Chou Bros
Got a 5r in 300 WIN and worked up a load with the new imr 7977, 165gr Sierra HPBTs and it groups just over 1.5 inches at 326 yards ( my range is metric), and well under .5 moa at 100yrds. Love it, for the price I think it's a pretty good deal and would definitely recommend it based on my experience.
