Is there any 416 Barett shooters here?

1. How do you like it?
2. Rifle your using?
3. Is there a soft point for the 416.

I am stuck, 338 or 416 Barett. My first choice was a 50 however with the small chance of a rule change it might become an expensive paper weight . I hope not.

Casting a lead bullet would give you the soft point good for hunting and or paper punching. The paper jacket would allow you to up the velocity without leading the barrel. There is lots to learn in this endeavour but it's doable with lots of instructions on the web. Check out <http://castboolits.gunloads.com/forumdisplay.php?62-Smokeless-Paper-Patching>. With this technique you could make an endless supply of cheap but effective bullets for plinking or hunting.
 
If I had the 7K for Barrett M99 & Leopold M3 I would love a 416 Barrett. It's actually flatter shooting than the .50 and is an Amazing cartidge. Ammo is obviously pricey and not readily available as .308 Win....but if I had 2000 yards in my back yard it would be a Fun Toy indeed.

The Barrett M99 either in 50 BMG or .416 Barrett is hands down the most elite big bore bolt gun us Canadians can get our hands on. In my opinion the .416 is an Amazing round...ballistically could out perform the .50BMG in certain situations.


The Tan Barrett M99 in either 50 BMG or .416 with fluted barrel is my sniper rifle wet dream, with premium glass and rings, match grade ammo, and 2,000 yards shooting from an elevated hide .....damn. I can only dream.


My. Remington M700P in .308 Win at 200 yards is the best I've gotten so far lol
 
I have owned a few 50BMG rifles and Ihave owned a M99 chambered in 416

If I could get good brass for the 416 like the 50cal brass that lapua now makes,the 416 would be my choice. brass and projectiles for the 416 are not as avaliable as 50BMG components.

There is a very significant difference in recoil between the 416 and the 50 I found the 416 a lt more fun to shoot. It will never have the energy that the 50cal does but really they are both so over kill its no matter.

There are a lot of good quality factory 50BMG rifles avaliable. Unfortunatly the same is not true for the 416

The Barrett is the least expensive large calibure rifle I have owned. There is a reason that they are so much less then every thing else........ They dont even come close in quality to a Steyr HS50 or a Mcmillan, PGW, or any custom builds that i have owned or handled.

The barrett M-99 is the lowest quality rifle i have ever owned, not just compaired to other 50cals but comparied to any rifle i have ever owned.
 
I've dreamt of a .416 or a .408 cheytac, but the costs go up SO MUCH to go to them from the .338's. Someday I'll have a .338 Snipetac, if I ever get really good with my LM.

well

$4 a piece for 416 brass $3.30 a piece for 338 brass
$50 for a box of hornaday 416 FMJ barret projectiles $40 a box for 338 projectiles

I think the costs are almost the same from my experience
 
I'm not gonna do the math, cause i don't really care that much, but when you start reloading the costs are more too..... Bullets and powder are definitely more.

Then you need to find somewhere else to buy bullets. I've been playing the 50bmg game for a lot of years and loaded hundreds and hundreds of 50bmg rounds I'm not gonna go around in circles arguing this with you.

How many 50bmg or 416 Barrett rifles have you owned and reloaded for..........
