Are my .308 cases to short at .2000?

I just worked up a great load using 45 g Varget,168 SMK. Cases were trimmed to 2005. I have a large amount of brass , measuring.2000 as a finished case. Can I use these and will they change my previous load, regards to accuracy? Thanks

I think you mean 2.000" and 2.005".

If you are using the lee trimmer. Remove the guide and inspect for cutter teeth marks. I had one guide become 0.007" shorter thus cut brass to 1.998". I only cut one case like that and I am still using it. I contacted lee and they are sending a new guide, but will be checking more consistently for wear on all Lee tools

I think its worse if the case is longer than max case length (2.015"), but I'll let more experienced people answer.

You can't have pressure surge with a case trimmed too short, that's only true if it's too long and hit the leade. What it unlikely "may" do is erode the end of the chamber (where the case mouth end up to be the leade).
But 2.000" is nothing as it's only 0.005" shorter.

Yes it's 2.000. Min is 2.005 max is 2.015 I'm at 45 g Varget . Hodgdons reloading and my Speer manuallists max at 46 g Varget. If I use the 2.000 cases , will this change my 1/2 group I got using the 2.005 cases? I was using my RCBS power trimmer and it can be a bit finicky. There was no signs of pressure with .45 g Varget.

2.000 is fine, that's where I set my Gracey trimmer to cut to. I doubt that you will be able to detect any accuracy issues between a case trimmed to 2.000 and one that is 2.015"

All sounds good, I wouldn't use them if it changed my groups. So if the OAL .2800 and is within the case length specs and I'm using the same projectile, powder , powder charge and primer , my groups should be consistent? With the only difference being POI? Or should the POI be the same no matter the case length , as long as it's within the recommended specs?

If the cartridge overall length is the same, the volume of the "boiler room" stays the same, regardless of the case lengths.
Uniformity is desirable for most consistent results, but I bet that in a given batch of brass five thou' variations in length would not be unusual, unless very tight tolerance control was being exercised.
I bet that if you were to fire groups with 2.005 cases, 2.000 ones, and groups with mixed 2.000 and 2.005, any difference would be insignificant.

shoot them. they will grow.

won't hurt accuracy or pressure.

i trim to half the full trim amount.

the shorter the case neck is trimmed, the greater the gas vortex and throat erosion. this only matters if you do a lot of shooting. i have shot out over 30 barrels.

I have about 100 or so trimmed to 2.000". Loaded them with 46gr Varget and shot them all out of my Savage 10TR. Never had a problem and accuracy was unchanged. As Ganderite said, they will grow slightly after shooting.

Good lord.... Listen to Ganderite - he's spot on. I neck up .338 Win brass for my .358 Norma b/c .358 brass is hard to come by & stupid expensive. They end up .020 - .025" shorter than what they "should" be & the old Husky still shoots 3/4" - 7/8" groups. And this, shot side by side with loads in actual .358 Norma Mag brass. Yes, they do eventually grow but it makes no difference in the performance of this rifle.
