Powder shortage - is it easing up?

I have seen a lot more powders available lately than I have in a long time. Not anywhere near it should be though.

No matter how well stocked the shelves in the stores are though, a tear still forms when I know there is no W571 to be found, ever. :(

Heard a rumour there was an issue with Alliant Powder not having bilingual packaging.

I heard that also but I really can't believe it. The last bottle I bought couple years ago now had a french sticker with about 10% of it stuck on the side. It just kind of flapped around until I removed it :)

Others can correct me if I'm wrong but I was led to believe that W231 is being discontinued and replaced by cleaner powders.

They debunked that on their FB page in Aug but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else since.

I heard that W231 and HP38 (the same powder) are expensive to produce and at risk of being discontinued. There are many popular alternatives for the same applications (e.g. CFE Pistol) which is a factor. Every discontinued powder has had its followers who considered it irreplaceable, but it comes down to the economics of it - it's always been this way.

I hope this is enough proof for everyone. Right from the horse's mouth today.

Hello x
There are no plans to discontinue either powder.
Don’t know where you are hearing but whoever is reporting is incorrect.
Thank you for your business
Chris

Hi Chris,
Is there any truth about W231 and/or HP38 being discontinued?
Thanks,
x

But back tot he OP, yes slowly. I have recently picked up a bunch of HP-38. They even changed the one pounder lids to plastic.

Seen Titegroup, x4350 and x4895 available lately. Varget, H110/W296 is still limited and expensive.

I am just about set for a couple of years, I buy whenever I see something I use. Henry at Budget shooter supply lists a number of alliant powder in stock, I just picked up a few pounds of blue dot from him, picked up some hp 38 from le baron, and almost everyone seems to be getting titegroup in. You just try to not get your supply low. I want to get as many components as I can just in case one of the new dimbulbs in Ottawa gets the bright idea to limit loaded ammo

LE Baron has W231 popped up from time to time. last time I found it there was in July. Haven't been looking for powder since as I have enough for a year.
