I picked up a new ruger american in 270 win this spring from one of are great gun nutz members and didn't have a chance to shoot it. At the same time I also picked up a leupold vx 1 3-9x40mm with weaver grand slam rings off of Clay at profit river firearms. So after a busy summer I finally got a chance to fire the rifle. The first time out to the range was what I expected about a inch and a half or so with factory ammo. So I went to the good old reloading bench and loaded up some rounds with IMR 4831, IMR 4895, Hybrid 100v and H 4831sc with nosler 130gr e-tips and CCI 200 primers. This is the results of the IMR 4895 load. A 4 shot group at a 100 yards

ive got the Ruger American Predator in 223.
alas i have been so busy i havnt had a chance to put any optics on it yet or even shoot it for that matter!

im kinda hoping that once the snow starts to fall i can finally sit back and get it all suited up and do some load development for it as well.

In a weak moment last week I bought a Ruger American Ranch in .223 from my local Canadian Tire, its the one with the 16" barrel. Its gonna be my coyote/truck gun. I Put a Bushnell AR/223 4.5-18 X 40 mm scope on it. I was a little concerned when my groups while sighting in with Rem UMC 55 gr and Fed Fusion 62 gr where in the 2" range. Then for ####s and giggles I tried some Win 45gr JHP I had on hand, I wasn't expecting much as this rifle has a 1/8 twist and thought it might be too fast for the little 45gr pills but I was happily surprised when I got groups in the 3/4" range at 100 yards. Next set of days off I'm gonna start working up some handloads. Very happy with this little gun so far. Only issue was there was a little bit of contact between the stock and barrel at the front of the stock but this was easily and quickly remedied with some minor sanding with a dremel.

I have the American Compact in .243 and it shoots great. The best factory round I've found that works best in mine is Hornady's American Whitetail 100gr. Got a .7 inch group at 100yds, most were in one hole with one off a bit to the right to open the group up. Have to try some more out but that's my "go to" before I start reloading.

Nice!

I picked up an unfired .270 American from the EE too...last November...to be used as my primary bush deer rifle. November 2nd she goes live! :)

I found that I had to open up the fore-end of the stock with my dremel somewhat, as it was touching on the left side. I also worked up some loads and I had very similar results with 150g Hornady interlock and 45g of IMR 4064. Occasionally I will get a flyer, but I think that might be me.

If you have issues with feeding...it may be the mag. I had mine replaced under warranty. The Canadian shop was very fast in sending me a new magazine....or is that clip.... :)

I had the same problem with the for-end on my 270. I put the stock in front of a heater and put some papers in between the barrel and fore-end. Heated it and cooled it a few times and it worked out pretty good.

just started contemplating a compact in .223. I notice the prices starting to creep up on them. Reminds me of the tikka t3 starting out reasonably priced and climbing as they caught on. To me, the American is a $450 dollar gun in matte finish and $550-575 stainless. I see the matte selling at $530-550 and stainless approaching $700. I like these rifles but they are not worth those prices.

I had the stock touching on one side as well plus didn't like how flimsy it was. I opened it up with sandpaper filled the inside half full of epoxy with some fibreglass fabric in it that I had lying around, then aligned the stock to barrel with tape to hold it straight while it set

Poor pic of after it cured, I had to sand here and there to take some high spots down

Put back together now no chance of anything touching anywhere groups shrunk from MOA and a half usually with a flier to well under MOA consistently and the for stock its much stiffer
