Ontario expands spring bear hunt to most wmus

The province of Ontario has expanded the spring black bear hunt to most wmus that have a fall bear hunt.
The hunt has also been expanded to include non-resident black bear hunters.
I was perusing the OFAH web site and read the official announcement dated today.
This is good news even for those who don't hunt black bears as it gives them an opportunity to carry a gun in the bush for black bear protection under the authority of a license.
There are a couple of deep bush brook trout creeks I haven't visited in years because of the high incidence of black bear sightings in the area.
Now I can carry my w94 during the spring bb hunt and go speckle trout fishing without the fear of becoming bb poop and without being charged for poaching by cos.

Seems that the OFAH despite the bad rap it gets from some on this forum really digs in and gets things done.
That spring bb hunt is really good news for many of my outfitter friends in northern ontario.

Here is one of the "revenue streams" at work. Since Wynne and justard are so buddy/buddy perhaps there will be some thought about influencing hunting revenue through increased gun control.

We should take a lesson from the OFAH illustrated by this example that we need to work with whatever government is in power.
Power being the key word.
Taking an antagonistic confrontational stance from the onset benefits no one.
Calm rational dialogue is the way to go.
It was the supposedly gun and hunting friendly harris conservatives that cancelled the Ontario spring bb season back in the late 90s.

Seems Ontario remembers outfitters aren't the resident's enemy, attaching businesses to hunting makes it more difficult to trim a season or worse off as being just a "recreational change".

Be nice to be able to carry a predator protection gun in the ontario wilderness in the spring without being given the 3rd degree by cos and or charged with poaching.
I don't have any interest in harvesting a bear and I certainly don't have any interest in a bear stripping off the little meat I have left on my bones either.
I'll be revisiting my favourite brook trout streams this summer with my trusty w94 3030 on my shoulder.
