Barrel modification on a Marlin 336 XLR In 35 Remington

I Just got my Marlin 336 XLR, in 35 Remington back from my gunsmith. The barrel was cut back to 21" from the factory 24". It was just too long! The rifle felt so darn awkward to carry! Now it balances much better as well.

I installed a Leupold 2.5-8X36 silver ultra light scope on it yesterday. Benn having fun the last few days shooting cast 195 grain Ranch Dog flat points at 2025 fps. Fun stuff!

The bipod is simply to position the rifle for the picture. Normally it isnt mounted on a lever rifle.

The silver scope was an extra I had, and the only one I can presently justify mounting on the rifle. But I like it well enough.

Should be a good rifle. I would do.a serious search for some RN 200gr bullets and brass and buy whatever I could even if they are a bit expensive. Hornady is stopping making a lot of bullets esp RN and ammo can be hard to find.
 
Thanks for the heads up Supercub! I purchasd 200 brass a few years ago, but never heard of hornady no longer producing RN 200grain bullets. Good thing I cast for it!
 
you suck, only because that is one of the few 336 xlr's in 35 remington in canada and I want one.....................badly

Lmao! Boy do I hear yah! When I started my search for this rifle, I couldnt even get the LGS to find me one for 6-8 months! They couldnt even find it on Marlins web site! I tried to tell them that they make these rifles, but had a hard time showing them that they were ACTUALLY made! Lol!

I manaed to find this one by total fluke at a gun show in Grande Prairie,AB.
I was quite literally walking out the door to go home when I just glanced at a table to my left. I caught a glimpse of it and assumed it was a 30-30. But I turned around and went to look at it any way. I just like the lines of these rifles!

When I looked at the tag on the lever, and saw the caliber designation as "35 Remington" , I nearly come out of my skin! I promptly picked it up and had a very quick look at it. That rifle was sold before I picked it up! Lol! It was new and never fired! I dont even remember what I paid for it! At the time I didnt care much! I knew it was a rare bird to find at the time, so I paid the asking price without hesitation.

I completely dissasembled the rifle action when I got it home, and polished all the wear/friction points to a mirror like finish with my dremel (polishing wheel and jewelers rouge paste),and lots of elbow grease. The action is now BUUUUTTER SMOOTH! I love this little bean shooter!
It likes the Sierra and Hornady 200 grain Round noses. And 195grain large Flat point/metplat Ranch Dog cast bullets.
