6.5 Creedmoor or .260 Rem???

Which one would you guys do?? It's a decision for my MH (MODERN HUNTER) build.

I understand that the .260 is likely to feed better because of it's softer shoulder. I read the demigodllc articles of one vs. the other. The first said 6.5Cr was crap, and a few months later he said it was AWESOME!!! Hence my Q to you guys.

I like that Lapua makes .260 brass.

I don't hunt much, and shoot targets quite often, so I've steered away from the .308. I have a .300WSM if I go for moose, elk, or sheep.

Since you will be loading them into AR10 mags you might want to very seriously consider going with the 6.5CM just so you don't run into COAL issues with the 260 if your trying to load 140's to mag length. the 6.5CM was designed for this very issue.

What issues would you run into loading 140's to mag length with a 260?

I'm no PRS expert but I don't think ultra high precision is the key to success.

I'm also not saying you can't have a 6.5 creedmoor that shoots good. I would just rather buy Lapua over Hornady brass.
 
Mag length and COL of a very long projectile become an issue.

Hence why many like to run long actions for the 6.5's. You can load from mag and still go well past the ~2.9" most short action mags allow.

No idea what the Pmags, XCR, or whatever mags the MH is finely running allows.

I doubt ultra high precision is the OP's goal either, and I would also prefer Lapua over Hornady. But even so, 6.5 Creedmoor.
 
Either round will work just fine. The Creedmoor is quickly overtaking the 260 down south in both tactical matches and square range target matches. Norma and Nosler also make 6.5 Creedmoor brass. Hard to get any of it up here though (reliably).

Not benchrest precision, but if you want to finish near the top, you need to be able to hit MOA or smaller targets at distance without sighters or wind flags. Small targets on KYL are usually sub-moa and worth the most points. Prone stages will often have MOA gongs that are worth 2 or 3x the points of larger gongs (you can choose). At the last match I went to, some of the guys wearing cycling shirts were bragging about their sloppy reloading techniques. They pooped the bed on most of those stages...
 
We are getting positive feedback from owners of both, so it is hard to say which is better.
The 260 has more readily available brass and SB dies.
The 6.5CM seems to be marginally more precise but is hard to get truly great brass for and to my knowledge no SB dies exist yet.
Both seem to feed well from XCR-M mags, so really it is a flip of the coin in my opinion.
Personally I went 308 as although it is boring, it works and is readily available everywhere. A 165 gr SST or Btip turns a coyote inside out and still hammers gongs just fine.
 
In true CGN fashion: Get them both! (then sell the other at retail on the EE, save the taxes you know)
On a more realistic note, it does seem the 6.5 Creedmoor is taking a lot of sales from the 260 REM, I've seen more 6.5 Creedmoor for sale on the shelf, though neither are common.
One pro of the 6.5 is less brass trimming. A pro for the 260 is easier availability of high-end brass, but like kombayotch noted, 6.5 has Norma brass now.
