Is there a black shotgun to fit my needs?

For me it was a Remington 887 Nitro Mag from Wolverine Supplies:

That's interesting. First time I'm aware of this shotty. Is is USA made?

Any good reviews? Will standard RemChokes fit? Is the picatinny rail removable?

Buy an 870 and sink $500 getting it to run right.

Or buy a 590 (or better yet 590A1) and get it threaded for chokes.

Yes, US made. Various reviews online. Top rail can be removed, it's just screwed on, but I've never taken it off to see if they'll screw in flush. Takes Remington chokes. I've had 870 clones / M90A1 / Hatsan / 500 Tacticals ... sold them all, keeping this. Armorlokt is good too, I think. Details here:

I'd like it even better if it had no mag extension and just a sporting type cap.

I really like the DA Grizzly. I have two, neither are threaded for chokes. But some come threaded from the factory.

You could get it threaded, maybe $100, price would vary a lot among gunsmiths. No worries about parts after that, it would be a relatively cheap option.
TSE has Fabarm: http://www.theshootingedge.com/shop/firearms

Yikes - I just looked at the TSC prices. WAY up from when CanAmmo sold them.

TSE betrayed every shooter in Canada because of a pissing match with a competitor. They continue to bend us over with their pricing. I hesitate for not one second in saying "Avoid TSE unless all other options have been attempted." Scr3w, that, company.

The Grizzly is another good option, and then keep your eyes peeled for a spare longer barrel from either a gun show or DLask when they do a run of their custom shorties and pull the barrels off their factory 870's.

But as mentioned, the Grizz isn't threaded for chokes.

The shotgun on the bottom is, and is a handy option.

Completely ridiculous post. Bravo!

I've used three different 870s extensively and they run fine. If you had said something about the current finish, then you may have had something.

You must be lucky or i must be cursed. I have never seen an 870 out of the box that didn't need work to run right. I've alst seen a fair share of them break.
I could care less about finish on a utility firearm.

I must have been one of the lucky ones! I bought one of CanAm's cheap 12.5" barrels they did a short run of.. I should have bought a couple more. Mine came threaded for chokes. Easy enough to slap it on a Grizzly or 870 tube fed, and I think the whole package cost me about $360.

Rem870 18" threaded for rem choke by a gunsmith
Folding remington LE stock, planning to put a shell holder on it, just dont know what to put on it yet.
Bead sight

So far I'm leaning toward a DA Grizz 12.5" and having it threaded for chokes, or an Ithaca Home Defender. Both look like viable options. Decisions, decisions...

^^^ If you want an inexpensive short barrelled shotgun, consider a Hatsan 14" Aimguard and get it threaded for chokes. They're light weight, come with a fibre optic sight and can be fitted with a number of stocks should you wish to change out he standard field stock. You can get them for roughly $300.

It's definitely worth your consideration.

Ok, just ordered the 12.5 grizzly with bead sight. Waiting for Black Friday to order the standard comp stock I will put on it. At some point will get a longer express bbl with chokes so it can back up my waterfowl gun.

Anyone know if I can convert a frizz to left hand safety by flipping the button like on a pre-87 Remington?

Who has them available?
Wanstalls had them, and they are not getting them again any time soon.

^^^ A quick call ir message to Bell Distributors should tell yiu if there's some to be had. Call your LGS and order one. Wanstalls won't take the tiime to order (1) for you.

Do tell what the barrel threading and chokes cost for the Grizz when you get it done, and what kind of choke, I have two unthreaded 12", I could get one threaded for some reason which isn't entirely clear to me.

My 12.5 Grizz came threaded for chokes - it has the ghost ring sights though - they're pretty high, lot of sharp edges on the front. Nothing a dremel couldn't fix if you're motivated.
