Well good thing i don't use a speed loader on my AR mags, caught this little gem in a can of Federal.

Anyone had the misfortune of setting one of these off in their rifles? And if so how was the outcome?

Ha. I've had a couple of those in my lots of Federal. Just chuck it. It's not possible to set off in the rifle... the firing pin would never hit, and its on the wrong side of the anvil.

I know a guy who found a Winchester .300WM round with an upside down primer last week.
I'd pull the bullet for my junk-reloads (mixed bullets) used for blasting at close range. All unknown powder gets dumped in a mixed powder jar for Canada Day.
If you don't reload, toss it.

I had a similar issue recently. Contacted the manufacturer sent some pics. They compinsated me fairly nicely. Free box of ammo, touque, few stickers, few pins and a $300 dollar off coupon on a firearms purchase

Companies need to know when things sneak past the QC station. You did well.

That's awesome, which manufacture was it? Did you need a receipt for proof of purchase? I don't keep receipts for ammo purchases, because of the whole non refundable thing for safety reasons.

I had a sideways primer go off in a 9mm sig. Just a big poof of white smoke, no damage. But the powder was not ignited.

Edit, factory Winchester White Box

If you fire a round with an upside down primer, likely nothing at all would happen as the firing pin would likely never reach the top of the anvil. However, if it did actually set the primer off, you would get a small explosion on the bolt face and the firearm would likely cycle or FTE. I doubt very much if it would damage anything, or cause injury. The round itself would not go off as no part of the primer fireball would reach the powder in the case

i would be extremely shocked if a primer only would even move the bolt let alone cycle it. I may even test it for ####s and giggles.
