Cancelling my tag - BC

Easy question really. What exactly am I supposed to do when I shoot my game, as far as my tag is concerned?

I see a bunch of triangles on the outside of my tag, which obviously indicates date, but what am I supposed to do with it? Is simply ripping the tag at the appropriate date enough? Do I need to remove the whole triangle? What if I rip a big whole that removes more than one day on the tag?

I can't find anything in the regs that outline what is expected of me, so I figured might as well ask here rather than ask a CO in the heat of the moment.
 
Take a very sharp knife and completely cut the month, day, region and antlered/antlerless as the case may be. The instructions for properly cancelling your tag is in bold writing on the back of each page of your hunting license.

Exactly, cancel it asap upon harvesting animal.
Some CO's get kinda analysts about those details, kinda like filling out your name and address on the inside cover .
One of the first things they look for when they ask to produce it.

They should have explained all of that that to you when you took your core.
 
send me a donation for the local Animal Shelter and I'll send ya a pair of scissors for your hunting bag. They are very handy for this purpose.
 
This is what i figured, but wanted to confirm because i couldn't find anything on the topic in the regs, and I didn't even think to check on my licence.

You're suppose to carry a sharp knife, n'est pas?
Two slits on each side of the triangle.
Find something to slit it on.
Could be the reason some old 94's had odd short straight
knife lines in their stawks.
 
Among several other knives, I carry a Swiss Army Knife with the tiny little (sharp!) scissors. Works great!

Hard to believe tag cutting wasn't covered in your CORE course. That's pretty pathetic.
 
wow, is there any real reason to make the process complicated.

here we just slap the tag on the dead animal, good to go.

and if you run into a CO they check the tag number matches the licence and your good to go.

It isn't complicated. It is a matter of cutting 4 triangles off the edge of a piece of paper. Done.

In BC nothing gets attached to the animal.... Tag stays in your licence book.

yup we are talking BC here.
yer not wrong there man. been there done that and dodged the fines by pulling out my Metis Status card LOL
you gotta have that address filled out and it better match your other ID
and you have to completely remove those triangles.
i used to use a knife, till about the 3rd time i cut myself ..... finger cuts are bad when yer about to dress out an animal or still have days left to hunt other game.
it takes nothing to add a small pair of scissors to your field gear and I'd recommend that to any new hunter.
take yer time, check yer phone/watch for correct date. After the kill, especially for a new hunter, the "high" that comes after taking an animal can cause a guy to make silly errors. I've seen long time hunters do it right in front of me.... heck I've been there myself.
so , have a seat, take a breath, slow things down, pull out yer tag and scissors, verify the date and region and cut out those little triangles.
 
remember the older ages of having to punch out the region number when there was 8 little circles in the middle of the tags???
those little folding scissors are your friend when it comes to cutting tags in BC, the hunting part is simple, the arts and crafts of tag cancellation is yet another story.
Long long time ago we used to get metal tags to wrap around a leg or a antler, best part of hunting way back then was finding someone elses long lost treasure and adding more to your own freezer........
wait until you get into LEH hunting and have to carry a working pen everywhere you go......you need a boy scout in your hunting pack

The Province will introduce a new online system for hunters in 2016, making it easier for you to register and apply for Limited Entry Hunting (LEH) draws. You can submit LEH applications online at home, or at a Service BC, FrontCounter BC, or vendor location. The online service will be available for the Fall 2016 LEH Draw. More information will be provided in the 2016-2017 Limited Entry Hunting Regulations Synopsis.

You can no longer purchase paper application forms for the Fall 2016 LEH Draw or the 2016 Special Sheep LEH Draw. Application forms for the Spring 2016 LEH Draw can be purchased only at the following locations:

Didn't take my CORE (challenged it) Total cost to write the test was like $10.50. More money for ammo and tags. I assumed I knew the right thing to do, but I figured I would check here with people who actually have experience to double check.
