If money was no object...

I'd invite meself over to Catt's and fly there.
Ask him to bring out his favorite three.
Stare long and hard at them.
Pick one up and wartch hizz expression.
Then do it twice more.
If he isn't holding a poker face, the favorite one should show.
Then I'd wrap the gal up and take her home.
Cheque signed and amount left open.
Pewf...........gawn.

Thanks for the warning - you just showed your hand- and you would be heading home with a beater Remington model10!Laugh2

Performance Shop Benelli Super Black Eagle, Supersport or M2. Not worth the money but its no object,

Patrick

I would go with the Benelli performance shop Black eagle or Super Sport. I own a Beretta A400 xcel with I use for clays and waterfowl not really a home defence gun but I'm sure it would work if needed.

The answer is to buy an 870 with 28" barrel (with chokes) and a 12.5" or 14" barrel. That is the closest you can get to a do it all gun.

Agree that barrel length is one of the biggest considerations. For home defense you would want to look at something with a max of a 20" barrel. Of course you can use anything in a pinch, but too long a barrel decreases your mobility, response time and increases the odds of getting hung up on something as you navigate in close quarters (and possibly in poor light and 'just woke up' conditions). If plinking is your other main issue then a shorter barrel would be okay there too, but for skeet and waterfowl hunting you would want a longer barrel. I will let others battle it out over brand names and models.

A much better way. We often had people come out to shoot trap and skeet with their silly tactical shotguns, and the results were usually mediocre at best. Even if they did manage to break a decent amount of targets, the recoil and noise resulting from shooting in excess of 100 rounds during one session was not pleasant.

Is there a barrel minimum length where you shoot? They wont allow anything less then 26" where I shoot. I cant imagine what it would be like shooting a round with a bunch of guys with 18" barrels. Im pretty sure I'd have a headache for a week

Well, if the SHTF some day maybe you can repay them by bringing your silly trap and skeet gun to the party. :)

*I am just kidding here btw.

Unfortunately no, there is no minimal barrel length. And yes, having to be in a squad with people shooting those silly tactical shotguns with 18" barrels, makes a round of skeet far less enjoyable for everyone.

I did a search within this forum using terms like "best shotgun", "all around shotgun" etc and got alot of hits but nothing that really answered by question.

I'd like to know, if money was no object, what is the best all around shotgun for the following:

-Home Defence
-Target/Plinking
-Skeet/Trap/Clays
-Hunting

If I am trying to cover all those bases with one gun, is there one brand or model that would rise above the rest?

Appreciate the opinions...
If money is no object, then why look for the swiss army knife of shotguns when you have money to buy the best one for each use?

OMG what an unimaginative bunch! Money no object and we get suggestions of Mossbergs and 870's. The only person in three pages who answered correctly is Sherlockbonez and his suggestion of the H & H Royal. And Kamlooky was close 'cause Cat's got some good ones. The rest of you go back to shotgun school.

And in case someone is wondering (cough, ripitup911, cough cough) , VictoryXC's suggestion of the $2300 DU M12 for $2300 was sarcasm!!!

Ok then lets do a real money is no object answer then.

For your basic hunting needs you will need a H& H. For your skeet and sporting clays you will need a Krieghoff or Parrazzi. And your "home defence" sould be a Benelli M4. Because money is no object buy 2 of each so i have 1 to shoot when i move in.

I don't think that folks here are unimaginative... they are responding to the very clear picture created by the OP, of the OP... an 870 is "shooting for the stars" on "newspaper route" money.

Hoyt, it's humour. But for the record, the OP didn't say anything about practical in his real world, he said money no object and asked if there is there one gun that does it all.

ripitup911, now you're talking.
