Are K31s getting rare?

I have not seen any K31 on the shelves of LGS in the past couple of months. They seemed to be available before.
I keep wondering if I should buy a little crate of GP11 while it is still only $390 for 480 rounds, but if finding a nice
K31 is going to be tough, maybe I shouldn't bother?

The stockpiles in Switzerland are empty. What will be available now will be either private purchases from civilians in Switzerland (which is more expensive for companies than buying them straight from stockpiles), or private purchases from civilians in Canada. There was approximately 600,000k of these made, so I doubt they will ever be rare, I can see uncommon, or just more expensive.

So either get them well you can, or regret it later. I predict the interest to go down in the future however if the prices start to go up. GP-11 will also run out at some point, in which case they become difficult handloaders (they are very picky on reloaded ammo). Once the high quality ammo is gone, a lot of the target shooting interest will likely die down as well.

They are the same as K98k's or Lee Enfield No.4's. At some point in time they were cheaper than dirt and now the supply of cheap government surplus has dried up but not the demand. So prices will climb, guaranteed. If you like them, buy one. They will not get any cheaper.

You'll be sorry if you don't.
Reloading 7.5x55 is easy.
Then get into the other models: 96/11, 1911, K11 and then the 1889.

Calgary shooting center has a good supply, as well as ammo.
They will be never be a rare item, but the price will most certainly go up.
I missed them when they were plentiful a few years ago.Nice ones were selling for $295.00 ,now they are $495.00.

Here in yUK they are now selling for around $700 and up. A nice IG1911 is selling for around $750 and up. Even the Model 1889, for which no license is required unless you want to shoot it, is hitting the far end of $800.

GP11 ammunition, still 1978 dated, is a buck fifteen a shot. Only one dealer in the UK has it, and he only sells face-to-face.

I would jump on a crate of ammo, funds permitting.. you will be able to find a nice k31 in time.. If I had the $$ I would be purchasing a crate myself.

A K-31 is picky with ammo? I've not experienced this.

They take common .308 bullets and brass is easily found.
Although currently it doesn't make much financial sense to reload with GP11 so cheap and abundant.

These are actual OAL used by various K31 owners.
All Listed OAL in U.S. loading manuals are for the Swiss 96/11, 1911, K11 rifles, unless Specifically mentions the K31
Lapua(Vihtavuori) lists their K31 data as GP31, for obvious reasons.
