Thinking of having my Remington 7600P Cerakoted. I tend to mostly us S/S rifles for hunting but this seems effective and this rifle isnt offered in SS. My concern is it chipping off. Anybody here have this done on s hunting rifle actually used in the field under harsh conditions?

I have a few cerakoted rifles. It's about as tough of a finish as you can get. It's light years better than stuff like Krylon or regular spray bombs.

If Schmidt and Bender uses a ral8000 coating on 3800$+ scopes, that get abused by professionals. I'm sure it'll last on your rifle. Just make sure you check references!!! There was a guy on here that used TSE's preferred contractor, let's just say it's gonna cost more to fix then the original cost.

it does wear some if you try hard enough and if you drag it across a sharp rock it will scratch but I haven't had chipping or flaking. my 338 06 has the muzzle getting a shiny polished look from being in the gun boot on my quad but hasn't worn threw. I have a few that I have done without issue. the prep is 90% of getting a good finish. proper degreasing and grit blasting is nessasary to a quality job. the gun must be dismantled and all the little bits, springs and screws done as well if you want it weather proof.

I have abused it on a hunting rifle for a few years now, I applied it to the rifle, magazines and the plastic stock. There is no chips or flakes. There is surface scuffs and the stock finish is polished in a couple of the high wear areas, but the finish is still there. I wouldn't worry about getting a stainless rifle the next time after seeing how well it has held up. Prep work is key to any finish.

Stuff works great... it's hard as a rock, and when done right it doesn't chip without extreme abuse. As stated earlier, many high end products are now cerakoted.

I unequivocally recommend Frank at CerakoteBC. Google his work and you'll see it's top notch. He fixed that T97 that was botched (twice!!).

Julien at Downrange precision is a certified applicator of cerakote. Does the best work I've seen yet. As far as the abuse the coating can take, you won't wear it out in this life time it is the toughest coating I've tried yet.

I hadn't heard that we had a certified applicator in Canada. That is great news.

Is there a list somewhere of people that do this?

Was looking at getting a rifle done and was hoping that I didnt have to ship it across the country.

There is a guy in Smiths Falls, ON that is now doing hydro dipping and cerakote. He doesn't have a website yet.

Julien is the reason I bought my own setup for Cerakote. My rifle went to him twice and it still looked like shxx. I redid it and another one he did as it had dry patches and the muzzle was missed on it. He would be the last person I would ever send anything to. He even coated the chamber and the lugs with cerakote which wasn't too hard to take off as the prep work was even poor.

It's easy to apply but its the prep work that takes time. If it's your own rifle, and you're not paying someone to do it, you might be more inclined to take the time
to remove every screw and pin and break the rifle down to all the small parts.

I sprayed a Remington standard drop floorplate setup. While it's not hard to take apart, I've seen lots of people just spray them as one piece.

I took a Remington Model 7 predator rifle in all factory camo and sprayed it with a nice grey color instead. I'm in the process of replacing the Tupperware
stock on it right now with a 17oz. Wildcat stock.

I'll post some pics up when I'm done.

Here are a few pics of my cerakote setup.

If your going to setup for this don't forget the inline air filter/dryer no matter how clean and dry you think your air is, you will get water drops in the finish. Just my 5cents

Mad mike...

What spray gun and compressor are you running?

I have a cheap-ass spray gun from Harbor Freight (Princess Auto version in the US). Im running a 6.5hp, 60 gallon compressor but you
can easily get away with something way smaller.

You dont use much air to spray the little bit of cerakote required for a gun.
