Looking for a "tactical" that will humanly down a deer. 556 will leave no meat left I hear. Would 223 be better? Any thoughts?

Op sorry you are going to get a lot of flak for the question. But I guess if you bent on something "tactical" as you put it, then verbal shrapnel should not be a problem.

Umm... what?

Happy new year dude, but put the bottle down and have a nap. :)
5.56=.223
.223=5.56
For this application, same same.

I hunt deer with 7.62x39, through an XCR. It's tacticool and I'm humane.

Were all fudds if we don't agree on a tactical for a hunting firearm.You could technicley hunt with a mini 14 with an ati stock.VZ58 as long as you use SP hunting ammo in BC you should be ok.Varmint ammo not so ok.

Actually has nothing to do with the tactical aspect..... more to do with the fact that he is essentially comparing the same cartridge to itself and then stating that he heard a 5.56 (.224 cal) would cause too much meat damage......

Yeah we got it. Still think the tactical aspect is funny too though. Wonder how many deer he has bagged as regardless of the weaponry, it is in the result. I'm going with less than one.

Benelli MR1. It feeds HPs that choke my AR.

I can't remember who on this board said it, or precisely how, but it was something like:

"In war, non-lethal wounding is acceptable, even desirable. Thus fighting ranges and tiny little bullets work. In hunting, non-lethal wounding is a horrible #### move, so stick to sure-thing ranges with a large enough caliber to do the job."

If you want tactical, put a black 308 bolt gun in an MDT chassis.
