Good news for Vanguard fans...

Galamb,

Weatherby has nothing to do with the action: made in Japan by Howa.

if nor Weatherby selling them nor Howa importer are asking for it it wont be done ....

I should have been clearer in my answer - Adam said that it would cost prohibitive to have Howa (who manufactures them) to tool up to run Left Handed Vanguards because Howa had no inclination to do it on their own. They would have to pick up the whole tab and felt that they wouldn't recover the costs sufficiently.

Unlike the Mark 5's, these are low margin guns, so would have to sell thousands before they made back the cost. They decided "not worth it".

My next one is either going to be a Howa in 7-08 that I'll get opened up to .284Win or a Vanguard in 257Wby....still undecided.

last time i spoke with the factory manager in Japan they are up to do it but nor Howa US importer nor Weatherby was interested ...there is a market for the left handers ....

Perhaps when a lefty searches Weatherby and sees only the much more expensive rifle in left handed, they buy it. They may be seeing offering a lefty version as more expense and competing against themselves.

I once had a conversation with a manager of a golf store with regards to why its hard to find left hand clubs at the time in all model lines (this is a while ago) He pointed out that the left hand market in america is very small compared to Canada. where his sales are almost 60/40 right left. In america it was under 20% sales for left hand. He said that it was in direct relation to hockey and people learning to shoot left as there was always right handed players available. This might all be bupkis and he could have been talking just to talk. But just in my small sample size I know three guys that golf and play hockey left handed but are right hand dominant so maybe thats why we have so many left hand people in Canada compared to other places.

Well this here jest goes to proof that the majorititty awf men
sleep awn the right side of the bed.
Well, dominashun viewed frum the tailboard.

So far I have Howa's in .223 & 6.5x55, and a Vanguard in .243. Trying to nail down what the next one should be....looking at 25-06 or 257Wby as I don't have a 25 yet...

look bows and tell me how hard is it to find a lefty one ... dont you think bow companies are loosing money offering left handed bows?

i met more people that are left eye dominant than real left handed ones... so i agree with Canada is a different place or we listen more and let the people be what they are ...

I stock a "few" left handed rifles and shotguns at work because there is a small market for them.

Of the 400'ish non-restricted rifles and shotguns we sold in 2015 the total number of Left Handed sold were one (1) shotgun (870 Rem) and two (2) rifles (Both Ruger American's - a 30.06 and a 270).

So if I didn't carry "any" left handed models, at least last year it would not have even effected 1% of my annual sales.

I consider it "value added" because maybe that "leftie" will now buy his ammo from me, other accessories etc - but if was ONLY selling guns it may not make "economic sense" to stock rifles that move at the rate of 1:100 compared to right handed guns.

Just an observation...

Fortunately, changing a bow to leftie means only drilling the sight mounts etc in the opposite side and only the middle portion with hand grip needs changed..... Very easy to do... Rifles are much harder....

I feel for you lefties Phil.... My good friend is a border guard and the cbsa wasn't smart enough to order ambidextrous pistols so when he takes mandatory range practice he enjoys 9mm casings in the face.....

My friend (mentioned above) gave in and shoots right handed guns.... He can never find what he wants.... I wonder if there is t a market for left handed guns but so few are available that most lefties buy righties and nobody has tapped into it....

Yes, perhaps.

Tikka at least produces almost complete lines of calibers in left handed versions between their T3 Lite and T3 Stainless models - (204 Ruger, 22-250, 243, 308, 6.5X55, 270, 30-06, 270 WSM, 300 WSM, 7MM RM, 300 WM).

So they "are there" if someone really wants one, but would have to ask.

Just think it's odd.... But really appreciate your stats....

13% of the Canadian population is left handed....... Should take up 13% of your sales "technically".....

Now, that being said, there is a huge price gap between axxis and tikka...... And the vanguard would fill it..... But I do understand their stance......

You're bang on the money about eye dominance! both of the left handed shooters I hunt with are right handed, left eyed. That may be me in a decade. My right eye astigmatism gets worse, and my left eye can still pick out road signs from 5 blocks. Boo!
