lets see your thick bush guns!

Here is my ultimate bush gun but it's not just set up for short range I wouldn't hesitate to use it on big game out to 500 yards.

Rem 700 LSS - barrel shortened to 21" chambered in 375RUM = 260gr Accubonds @ 3020fps - 300gr bullets @ 2800fps and 350gr @ 2450fps...

I have NEGC front sight, Leupold QRW scope bases, QRW scope rings and when scope is off I install a rear XS Sights tall Weaver backup ghost ring sight.

very nice. you have the choice on the scopes ...

Scopes in the pic are = Burris EER 1X - Leupold VX3 2.5-8X36mm B&C reticle - VX3 4.5-14X40mm B&C reticle.

I now really only mount the XS Sights tall Weaver backup ghost ring sight and the 4.5-14 scope.

How much did you pay? Sorry if it's uncouth to ask.

eh, doesn't bother to me... Honestly, I paid what I felt comfortable... It seems they go from 300-600 depending on condition... Mine is definitely not mint but I paid top dollar at 600 because I haven't been able to find one... Plus its still more then half the price of a gun site scout ! lol

I don't mind tinkering either. I can fix up some of the bluing myself. Lighten the trigger and make it smooth myself also. Steam out all the bangs and bumps/re stain the stock.

End of the day, this is a bush gun. I personally like it more then the hog hunter or any other similar price point peep sight bolt/scout guns and REALLY like it more then the gunsite scout for the price (plus I wont have a mag disappear in the bush) ! lol

Yeah, I like it quite a lot. The resemblance to the GSR is striking. Fake gas tube (is that what the bayo mount is supposed to be?) might be heavy.

Lot cheaper than a GSR and a little cheaper than scouterizing a milsurp.

I THINK its to help stabilize the barrel, mostly aesthetic though I think. The bayo does mount to it yes.

C-fbmi...love that shotgun....sweeeeeet.

My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.' Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake, and he gave it up immediately, quit smoking cold turkey. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was very sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke... Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through. I agreed. At 26, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a good sense of regret for never trying it after all these years, because your post gave me cancer anyways.

I have a few good bush guns to choose from - but here's a favorite - a Marlin Marauder in 35 Rem from the early sixties with its 16" barrel - has been tree stand approved.

Also good for doggin and scouting territory - myself doing that with my handy 35REM Marauder classic.

Every time you post a picture of your 35 Marauder I hate you just a little more........

My bush gun is also a 35 Rem

Spanish FR8

Yup, I found the FR8 rifles kind of interesting. They come with a factory rear peep sight, which I think had different aperture settings on a dial for different ranges. The problem is the rear sight is permanently fixed to the rifle, which prevents the conventional mounting of a scope if that's your preference. The front sight is a tapered post, so its more difficult to aim with than a flat topped post, but the cool thing is it turns in an eccentric, which provides the adjustment for windage. The tube behind the bayonet mount contains the oiler. Chambered for 7.62X51, it makes a decent iron sighted bush gun, but at the time they were popular there seemed to be a consensus not to load them to full .308 pressures. I'm glad I never bought one though, by the time I had finished modifying it, I'm sure it would have cost as much as a high end sporting rifle.

This started out as a MAS Mle1936 7.5x54

Golden State Arms, Pasadena California, sporterized a bunch of different milsurps back in the 60s. The Mas36 barrels were cut to 18-1/2" and marketed as the Santa Fe Model 1949.

Bought it as a parts gun to replace a missing spring and screw on a full military version, but ended up finding those parts at a gun show anyway.

I made new stocks out of laminated cherry with a rock maple core in the forestock - finished antique style for kind of a steampunk look. The butt plate and rear swivel are off an SKS. A local smith put a banded front sight on it and I made a rear sight from the broken one that came with it.
