Hirtenberger 7.62x51FMJ (.308) any good for accuracy?

I've shot it out to 800m from my Coyote. Consistant hits on an 8" gong. What more could you ask. What I like is that it is very consistant. Speed, coal, bullet seating. It just works. As good as match grade factory...? No. But not bad.

Edit: the only drawback is that the bullet is pretty light.

I have the boxer primed version, I will have to open it up and test out with my coyote. The military crimp version gave me a good grouping with my M1A.

I find 4 or 5 out of 20 way off . Bought 200 berdain primed , shot about 100 very good groups and then sparatic flyer
I put it down to old ammo

Nothing special in my M305's These rifles will shoot handloads into 1.5" 5 shot groups at 100 more often than not. Not particularly more accurate out to 300meters than the Norinco stuff. Shot a few rounds in my Steyr SSG69, again nothing to write home about. After all the hoopla I was a bit disappointed. Not in same class as the old Santa Barbara surplus or even the FMN stuff. Of course, your results may vary.;)

4 shots outta my Savage 10TR, pulled the last shot a bit, definitely decent ammo. My NM m1a is about 1.5 MOA with it if I'm doing my part, some groups bigger some smaller, but average is probably about 1.5.

I know the berdan primed stuff is not so good no better than AE FMJ , so i pulled a bunch and replaced the WIN748 type ball powder with a healthy charge of IMR 4895 then crimped .. Those shot very well ..

The stuff I have is attracted to a magnet and is boxer primed. Is this ammo considered hard on target barrels? Should it be used just for the M305 like so many feel about the norinco copper washed stuff?
