So I am A new member here and just looking to get some advice from you guns nutz with experience. I am on the market for a 9mm carbine and I have sort of narrowed it down to a few the TNW aero survival rifle, the beretta cx4 Storm, and also a little interest in the Thureon defense carbine ( seem to be impossible to find one in Canada). Who has had good/bad luck with these rifles? What is the best bang for your money ? I want quality and reliability. Also would you recommend 9mm or .45 acp. Thanks gunnutz!

I am really happy with my TNW 9mm survival rifle. Lighter then the Jr carbine. Breaks down in seconds. Also comes with optics. The other rifles you listed do not.

I own a Thureon Defense and JR Carbine, they are both are excellent choices. The TD breaks down in seconds like an AR (Upper/Lower) and the JR has a rather time consuming breakdown but mine has been flawless. A plus of the JR is that the bolt handle can be put on either side, great for lefties. JR in .45 had problems in the beginning, I think it's been resolved. The TD had a firing pin issue which has been fixed (they reworked my bolt with a new stronger firing pin). Both run perfectly and take 10rd Glock magazines (mine are in 40 S&W).

Beretta is supposed to be very good as well. All take 10rd pistol mags, which is a plus. Cement blocks are no match for my shorty forty coming out of my carbines  - unsure if the 9mm would pack that much punch out of a NR barrel.

The TNW wasn't around (I don't think) when I was looking at carbines, don't know much about it.

I owned a Gen 1 Sub 2000 in Sig configuration, it ran well but felt a little cheap, but hit everything I aimed at. I liked it but sold it on the EE.

Check the Beretta Cx4 thread on the Black/Green forum.

I own a 9mm one and it's a frigging hoot to shoot. Almost 2400 rounds through it to date and not one single failure. Accurate within 3MOA with good quality ammo. It breakes apart easily for cleaning (one large pin to push out with your finger), is ambidextrous (you can change the cocking lever, safety, mag release and ejection side). Excellent ergonomics, great build quality.

The only cons is that it's pricey (but you get what you pay for), and the trigger is a tad stiff. You can easily enough fix that if you're careful, or you can get aftermarket parts from Sierra Papa.

I just bought a JR 40 cal before Christmas and I am still trying to get it to fire properly. They have been great to deal with but I honestly don't think I would buy another. At first it was driving the bolt through the side of every tenth round, after new parts it is not doing that, but now the last round of every magazine is not ejecting properly. It is disappointing to have to keep trying to figure out how to get a brand new rifle to work right. I did like that it could be converted to left handed but I will never trust it to be reliable if I needed it to be. I have read about many that have no issues at all but mine does :(

I've had a beretta CX4 storm, fired the keltec sub 2000's gen 1 and 2, Fired the JR Carbine a bunch of times, and just recently bought a TNW Aero. Out of all these I prefer the Storm however I still haven't taken the Aero out yet. IMHO it looks and feels the coolest haha.

Send it back for warranty work. Mine has been great.

Looks interesting but Restricted pretty well kills it for me... I like taking my carbines out to the farm and having fun with them.

I'm a big fan of pistol caliber carbines and I own the Beretta CX4 , Kel Tec Sub 2000 first gen, and the Thureon Defence. Only the Sub 2000 has had hiccups , but only if I let it get too dirty or try 115 grain. My favorite has to be the Thureon due to its ease of takedown and ability to upgrade easily with readily available aftermarket parts. The Beretta is fine but the trigger leaves a little to be desired , and I'm worried about the plastic firing pin's durability now that I'm reaching the 2000 round count. I've played around with a friends TNW and was considering purchasing one in olive drab but the price increase since its introduction into the Canadian market and availability has me waiting .

I chose 9MM over .45 ACP due to ammunition costs and I do use these rifles bi-weekly.

It's a really good split between the CX4, and the TNW.... The TNW has a few hiccups un like the CX4. I ended up getting a TNW anyways just because it felt nicer in my hands....

I like 9mm but chose the punchiness of 40 S&W in a carbine over it. Tons of fun at the range and on the farm.

Just as a side note, my TD and JR both state to not use reloads and only use factory brass cased ammo, unsure if any other carbine will shoot reloads or steel/aluminum cased ammo.
