What size magazine should I buy?

Just bought an Colt AR (it did not come with a magazine). I'm up to speed with the capacity issues from a legal perspective, so this is not a question on how many rounds I can fit into a magazine. I'm looking at MAGPUL PMAGS and my question is simply given all sizes are pinned to 5 rounds, is there a benefit to buying a 5/10 ,5/20 or 5/30? It would seem that if one could save a few bucks on a smaller mag why would you not always buy the smallest size available? Is the appeal of larger mags aesthetic, or is there some other benefit I am missing?

Would be great if I could find stock too...

Nope. Ge whatever size you like. I personally like the look of the 20 mag.

You could always get LAR-15 magazines, 10 round legal capacity.. THey are shorties though (10/10 rounds), so they won't fit nicely in a "mag taco". But they drop free pretty nicely, the one from c-products at least.

Only reason I got 30 rounder's was for monopodding while prone, for service rifle. Figured I should practice how I'm going to be shooting.

Looks mostly, with some rifles like the mini-14/m1a a magazine that has length is easier to remove.

These are what I am running in my Colt IUR:

You're welcome!

Probably the best idea,
If you're just looking for fun, you could also attach two LAR mags together with a Magwedge (or tape maybe).

Buy 30 rounders so eventually one day when we get someone with half a brain making decisions around here you can simply remove the pin instead of buying all new mags!

30 round length is what most pouches are designed to work with/easiest to pull mags out of.

30 round length works well in prone to monopod the rifle on. Depends on what you the user will be using the rifle for. 30 round mags are abundant, you can always get some later if you don't think you want a shorter version now in the short term.
