Sako TRG22

Thanks M.D.. Have you shot it yet? What do you think?

I have shot it actually, snuck out on Valentine's Day morning before the wife and kid were up. Only had time to zero it, so I blatted off a few rounds to get it close, used some crappy blue box I had laying around. Please be gentle, I'm not a very good shot but these are the results from zeroing at 100m. The top target sheet has one 5-round group at 3 o'clock and a bunch of random hits from dialing in. I was using cheap blue box for this:

I was able to produce a slightly better group (5 rounds) on the lower sheet using Hornady Match. I'm fairly certain this rifle is capable of better groups, 4 shots were basically touching, so I'm going to write off that little flyer to user error. Also keep in mind, I was using a knock-off Atlas Bipod I had laying around (the real deal arrived the next day, go figure), plus I'm not a very good shot to begin with.

For you more experienced guys, I bet you could produce one ragged hole with this rig.

I shared this up in the precision picture section but I thought I would do it again here. It is RAL8000 cerakote on an otherwise stock TRG22. It does have a 12MM Terje TRG cheek spacer on there and is normally topped with a S&B 4-16x50 PMII. So far it has only shot factory Hornady Match ammo but it did successfully complete the factory 25 rounds in under .75 of an inch. I hope to get some load development going this weekend.

I am pretty positive you will be pleased with it when you get it. I don't know if it has an ultimate accuracy potential like my custom rig but it might once I get the load dialed in. The 3 lug bolt and the smoothness is a nice plus.

I just picked up the 42 recently on a trade, knowing next to nothing about these rifles until after I got it and did some research. I think mine has a 27" barrel, chambered in 300wm.

On mine, I was surprised to find how comfortable it was considering the previous owner had tweaked it for his preferences. I could literally get right on top of it and fall asleep. The cheek rest is peaked, rather than the rounded ones I'm used to (see Cadex Dual Strike and XLR Carbon chassis), but doesn't cause any discomfort when resting or shooting. The buttstock is adjustable for LOP and comb, however you will require parts swaps (for the spacers that best fit you) and it is not tool less adjustments.

For rails, I've scanned a lot of photos and it seems that the go-to rail is the Near Mfg one, which is made in either 25 or 45 moa. I think Spuhr makes rings that go straight onto the Sako dovetail, so if you get that, you pay a little extra but you won't need to add a pic rail.

My rifle came with a brake, not sure what brand, but there's one on EE right now that seems like a pretty good price. Coretac makes a bunch or you can get the factor TRG one.

Mine also came with the BT adapter for Atlas bipods. I ended up throwing an Atlas bipod on there, but I hear the factory Sako bipod is quite nice as well, and allows the system to pivot closer to the bore axis. Pricy as *uck, I think they run about $700-800?

Other accessories are pricy as well, like the $3000 folding stock. Mags run over $200 a pop.

Can anyone confirm if Spuhr makes a direct fit mount for the TRG22? Anyone with pictures?

I have a TRG 22. Personally I would recommend you buy a Picatiny rail from Near Manufacturing that fits your TRG 22, then buy a Picatiny Spuhr mount. Spurh mounts are pricy. This way you'll have the flexibility to use your mount on any rifle that has a Picatiny rail.

Edited: ... and use any scope rings you want on your TRG!

Yep, also a good idea. But if I ever sell the rifle, the Spuhr mount would go with it.

I understand.

I do swap scopes between rifles sometimes. I am using the monolitic mounts so it makes the process easy. The mount stays with the scope.

Let's try this again. Pics of my TRG with LRA bipod and B&T bipod spigot. It adds a little weight and puts the bipod out a little far for it to be adjusted on the fly when prone but the spigot is rock solid and precisely machined.

T,

Able to take a better pic of your sling... what sling is it and how does it hook up to the rifle?

Thanks!
