9mm 1911s: SAM vs. Norinco

I'm looking for range gun that isn't too pricey. 9 mm to keep the cost of ammo down, and a 1911. I may want to matching .22 LR to go with it.

How does the Norinco and the SAM compare? I hear the SAM is fairly good quality for the money. I'd like to get into some kind of competitive shooting sports in the future, so if the gun could be upgraded for IDAP or other competition, that would be great.

I'm hoping to spend under $600 for the 9, $450 for the .22.

Or other suggestions?
 
if you want to step up and get a .45 marstar has a sport and high cap commander brand new models. thats what i would buy. the commander at $425 is a steal!!

as for what you are looking for i think the norc is better because its cheaper and you can upgrade it later all you want and not have too much into the gun.
 
I have 2 pals that just bought Norinco 1911s. One in .45 and one in 9mm. Unbeatable for the price $350. One is blue and the other a Stainless type finish. Norinco has continued to get better and better every year. If I didn't already own an expensive Kimber .45. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Norinco. I do have a Norinco AR 15 copy and it works flawlessly and very happy with it. Not sure about SAMs. Apparently the steel used in Norinco frames and slides is so good that some Custom Pistolsmiths are now specifying Norinco frames and slides for their custom pistols.
 
SAM SAM SAM! For the $100 more you will pay for the Sam you will get twice the gun.

Norincos are excellent and I have zero complaints. Owned a few and would recommend to anyone. That said the finish and build quality comparatively to the Sam isn't even close.

If it's down to dollars buy the Norc. If you have a few extra bucks Nut Up and get the Sam. You won't be disappointed!!

I've lost faith in SAM, and norcs give you little pride of ownership...as well as having issues with fit n finish

If you cheap out now, are disappointed, and upgrade later, it costs you more in the end.

If you've shot a 9mm 1911 and like it, save up for a better gun
 
Save for somthing a bit more highend, you're going to upgrade anyhow. They ALWAYS do, thats why you see so many custom Norks for sale without biters. SAM have issues with updated parts, most will need more than usual fitting.

Look for a used Taurus, Rugar or similar 1911

but if you had to choose, go SAM
 
Norc for better steel, sam for better fit than most guns, and regular 1911 steel. I like both for different reasons. My norc ahoots 45 super now and for any 45 acp i use the sam. The sam always comes to the range.
 
I've had both, and enjoyed both. SAMs have a better finish and way better sights but I found swapping out parts required some basic and some not-so-basic machining, whereas after market parts fit the Norc no problem. You will be extremely happy with either.
 
wife got me a Norinco 1911 spport model 45 and i got her a SAM sigma 6 stainless 9mm. To be hoenst i liek both, SAM has the better finish and fit by far. Norinco should have the better metal in it. Both shoot very well and are fun to shoot.

so its preference, both will work and be fun. I would not say either are competition guns either
 
Yes. I didn't mean to imply it was made in Canada. If you're gonna buy a budget 1911 made in Phillipines like SAM you might as well go with seraphim.
 
i agree with grom on the seraphim guns but really if i am going to upgrade at some point i dont want to spend more then $400.

I completely agree. I used to own a Spartan. Bought it used for $600. I should not have sold it. Those are very nice and accurate. I used to own Norcs. They work great but once you put a few thousand rounds through them they show signs of wear due to their poor fitting.
 
I tried to get a seraphim they said they should be on store shelves by May they won't give me any prices. They are probably identicle to a SAM. Just different finish options
